Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Asking the hotel to split the bill so that I can redeem an Amex offer?

  • 20 posts

    Hey all,

On my BA Amex Premium Plus I have an offer for IHG which gives me £75 when I spend £300 and also have the same offer on a supplementary card.

What are the chances of getting the hotel (Holiday inn resort) to split the bill of around £1000 in half?

That way I can get £150 back..

P.S on the offer t&c it just states that it’s available on a per card basis.. I assume that means i could use it on my main and supplementary card..

I’ve never had issues paid with 4 cards before.

So that the transactions do go through one after the other at checkout, I tend to part way through my stay, go to reception and get them to put a payment onto my account from a second card that the offer is on, and they never mind.

When paying on departure, just ask to pay specific sums with different cards. Have never had an issue doing this in the past.

Yes, it is never an issue. I’m sure some people do it for genuine reasons every day, such as splitting the bill between a couple or breaking out personal and company charges or simply due to credit limits.

Well as long as it’s not a hotel which charges you in full on check in, but an HI Resort shouldn’t.

I did exactly that at a Kimpton last weekend. £318 on my Amex, £318 on my wife’s (who also want travelling). £75 credited to both within a couple of days.

Hi, I am thinking of splitting the bill using the current Bonvoy offers across a few of our Amex cards. Anyone had any experience doing this at Bonvoy hotels? Should I assume it is fine?

Should be fine, just explain what you’re trying to do at checkout. I’ve done this previously at a Marriott, and also booked prepaid rates on separate bookings using different cards!

Never had a problem at a selection of Bonvoy hotels.
