Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points
Looking at the June 24 Luxury thread and the suggestions on there and I need inspiration. Much as I’d like to go to an Ikos again it’s not in budget now that I’m stuck with school holidays. Not long haul this year and all inclusive would be great (but not essential) so that I don’t have to worry so much about the kids leaving half drunk drinks constantly.
I can see Avios availability to Greece, Cyprus, Crete, Corfu, Mallorca, Turkey, Malta, mainland Europe but I’m not feeling inspired. Definitely not the Canaries as we’re going in October.
Has anyone been anywhere that has been better than expected or surprised them that they would like to recommend ?.
If you don’t mind B&B (but lovely B&B at that) then I can recommend Kantouni Beach Boutique Hotel – 30 rooms on the island of Kalymnos which is a 30 min ferry from Kos. We flew CE to Kos and took a taxi to the port (15 mins) and then caught the ferry (8 euros). Good food in the restaurant although a handful of tavernas in walking distance and more in a ten minute taxi ride. We are just back from there so can vouch for the TA 5* ratings.
Alternatively just pre Covid we did the White Rock of Kos. Not much nearby (a couple of tavernas at best) but the hotel was lovely and the staff were fabulous.
Most destinations have hotels which have apartment-style accommodation so you can eat out but also self-cater to whatever degree you choose (also lots more space in an apartment!) I like being able to get a drink/ice cream etc, whenever I feel like it (middle of the night if necessary!), and like you say, it’s no big deal then if the kids don’t finish them!
I’d also welcome some inspiration for Southern Europe next summer. My wife and son (who will be 10 by then) would like a hotel somewhere where there is some stuff to do (watersports/games room/bikes/other things to keep a 10 year old occupied). I am happy with a nice quiet pool and a book. We like very comfortable and sophisticated hotels with good food and we really don’t want bunfight buffet meals – I have looked at Ikos in the past but been put off by the size of the resorts plus the all inclusive vibe. Has anyone tried Forte Village in Sardinia, or come across anywhere else that might fit the bill? Any thoughts much appreciated.
Oh goodness, seems we are all after the same sort of thing. H4P European party?
We had a couple of good holidays at the Zafiro Palace in Mallorca. I’d say its “Ikos light” but at half the price, a lot better value for money. And you still have the delights of Andratx, Adriano, Palma, Portals nearby.
Malta this summer was also a huge surprise. Good value, good food, loads to do…..
