I have a BA London to Tokyo flight in J for 2 in mid November and a return from Osaka to Doha, Doha to London late November.
Unfortunately due to work reasons p2 can’t make these dates anymore and we need to look at a few weeks earlier. Obviously very tricky on such a popular route, and we are now looking at October or early November.
At this point I don’t imagine there are any London to Tokyo flight options with Avios, even with partner airlines. What are the most likely alternatives which include stopovers? Which European airports could I start at that have direct flights with JAL, Qatar or possibly Finnair? I’d probably use the same hub for the return. I also have a load of Virgin points. Shanghai and then an onward flight is possible but a 13 hour daytime flight in the 787 coffin seats is just very unappealing.
Everyone question I was going to answer, you answered. There is no way your getting tickets again from LON though, thats for sure. All your options are super viable.
Good morning from Tokyo – flew on Monday JAL FRA -NRT direct in J: 92750 Avios plus EUR 323.50. Have paid for a one way home on QR HND DOH MUC as I have an appointment in Munich
Thanks. So which hubs work for JAL and Qatar? Frankfurt, Munich, where else? I’m somewhat keen on Finnair but wasn’t loving their seat for a 7 hour daytime flight. I know they fly from Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen?
I can barely find any flights back to London, was hoping to replicate my booked return flight of Osaka to Doha to London. There are some Osaka flights but I literally can’t find anything on Qatar from Doha to London for 2 people in October/November. Only BA flights which cost way more.
It also seems all the Qatar flights have to connect via Doha. I don’t mind flying from Japan to Europe with Qatar but are there any direct flights or is it all via Doha? That means two stopovers.
Finnair resumes flights to Nagoya from end of the month as an alternative to Tokyo and Osaka. There were a lot of seats available 2 weeks ago when I looked.
JAL usually has last minute availability, think like 2-4 weeks in advance. Direct flights to Tokyo from Helsinki, Paris and Frankfurt. Another option is BA to Doha and JAL from there.
If you have Virgin points, you could check booking ANA. From London and Frankfurt it might be tricky given they have The Room and The Suite on those routes, but sometimes these are also released last minute. Finding two J seats 2 weeks before is not unheard of.
They also fly to Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Munich and from September to Stockholm. As a wild option, you could fly to US and take flights from there which opens more possibilities. It’s not going to be that much longer what with transfers in Doha or European hubs.
Good morning. I might be on the wrong thread here but I’m new to this. Took the BA Amex Premium Plus card out last year and have spent the required amount to get the companion voucher. The wife is also in the Executive club and I noticed and offer for a new BA Amex card for her where she will get a 60k bonus etc. Am I missing this something or is this a no brainer? Spending habits will mean that even with the new increased cap we should get 2 companion vouchers. Can she get the card and use the points in our household account? Would appreciate any help!

Wrong thread but I can answer your questions.
Does your wife meet the min 35k personal (not household) income requirement? Has she had an opened avios earning amex card in the last 24 months? If so she should be able to apply and get the bonus. There are at least 2 thread discussing the offer where some people have discussed the T&Cs in detail as there might be some questions on whether it is 24 months no avios earning cards or any amex cards.
Add her BA number to the application form, if you have a household account set up then you’ll be able to redeem points out of the household pool. There are many articles on this site that you should take a read since you are new especially the couple earning avios strategy post before you go ahead.

Do you have enough Amex points to transfer to Asia Miles? There’s plenty of availability on CX in J if you go via HKG for the date range you’re looking for

Thankfully my issue has been sorted so my original bookings can remain. On your point though, are these London to HKG flights? And is it better value redeeming Amex points for Asia miles vs using Avios for CX? Or is availability much better doing it direct?

There’s plenty of availability for both Tokyo to HK and also HK to London on CX if you redeem via Asia Miles. CX releases more availability to its own members (particularly in J), so you won’t see as much of them on BAEC/Qatar (i.e. it’s harder to find the availability using Avios)
