Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Avios on WesternUnion remittance using Barclaycard Avios MC

  • 19 posts

    Hi Everyone,
I do remittance to India very often. Use wise but have started using WU as it’s real time over weekend too. As well, I tried paying WU using Apple Pay (Barclays Avios MC). Barclays app shows the exact amount without any further charges. It seems to consider as normal transaction. Question I want to ask is if I get Avios for these transactions as well?
Historically, Virgin Atlantic card using wise always considered wise remittance payment as cash advance using credit card. If Barclays give Avios for remittance from WU, it’s fantastic.
    Thanks
    Raj

I did check my Barclays app statement and I am getting Avios for Wu remittances. Now bye bye wise.

Yep – I have done quite a few transfers via Western Union to Pakistan using the Barclays avios card for some wedding clothes and has worked well every time, avios post as normal.

WU rates are poor IIRC though so only worth doing if you’d be using it anyway I’d imagine

You really have to hope they didn’t use their genuine email address when writing that (and presumably the email address is their real name too).

WU are not that bad as compared to wise in terms of exchange rate as well charge per remittance. wise don’t do remittance over weekends. And you get Avios from Barclays

Were you hit with a cash advance fee in the bill later?

Nope – no charge / fee has been applied on a payment I made in November of last year (or other payments since).

WU does have quite poor rates (and charges a fee on top) but is a ‘safer’ option in countries with less developed financial systems!
