I wonder if anyone has had this issue. My wife has had an Iberia Plus account for a few years but it has never been used. My daughter wants to go to Lisbon on 24 May but direct flights on that day are ridiculously expensive so we had to improvise. We transferred some amex rewards to my wife’s IB+ account and, among other things, booked an Iberia flight from Madrid to Lisbon on points. I patted myself on the back for having the foresight to set up the account for just such an occasion.
We received an email from Iberia this morning saying the reservation has been cancelled ‘for security reasons’. No further details given. I’m guessing it looked suspicious. Has anyone had similar issues and were they able to get the booking reinstated?
I’ve never heard of this happening, have they just cancelled the flight or also suspended the account? Have you contacted IB?
There are also dedicated IB threads over on FlyerTalk where there are readers who are very experienced with using IB.
Mostly dormant account, points transferred in from an external source then used to book a ticket for someone other than the account holder, departing from a country different to the account holder’s country of residence. I can kinda see why that raised some red flags!
I think your wife is going to need to phone Iberia and explain why it looks suspicious but isn’t

Every thing about this IS suspicious to IB – and most other airlines would do the same in the circumstances. I’ve certainly see BA and VS do this.
Sorry, I wasn’t very clear. Agree re the red flags, but just cancelling a flight for security reasons without (apparently) doing any further due diligence seems a bit neglectful. We’ve seen numerous examples of BA actually freezing accounts for this kind of behaviour, which doesn’t seem to have happened here.
But yes, contacting IB is probably going to be the way forward, although they can be rather difficult to engage with!

BA and Virgin do the same. There’s a difference between suspicious activity in an account leading to that account being frozen pending investigation and a flight booking being made as following such activity when cancellation is a fairly standard response, ‘pour encourager les autres‘.
As some have reported here this sort of action, notably with Virgin, can be a devil to unpick.
