The Barclays app is good value. We did 2x 200K Avios subs last year at around 0.8ppp. Usually good value for short-haul, but long-haul Club/First with an AMEX 241 is mostly where we spend them. Also have Barclays upgrade vouchers but not tried to use them yet.

Thanks for your reply after we see if OH gets approval for BAPP in the new year, we don’t want to apply for too many cards on top of each other so are trying to leave a minimum 3 month gap between applications, will look into Barclaycard.
Going back to my original question about Avios Subscription if I paid with AmEx gold @ x2 it would be 2580 so presumably that makes it slightly better value than the 1.295 ? When people calculate the cost of an AVIOS do they include paying with the card, or is it all about the redemption value?

@Misty the Avios sub will not register as a payment to an airline (my card statement showed ‘Avios Group AGL Limited’ as the recipient, not BA), so you won’t earn double points on it. However, I agree you would be correct to calculate any points earned on the payment in order to have an accurate overall Avios cost.

Thank you for replying. Decisions, Decisions…..
@Misty : I personally wouldn’t pay more than 1p/pp (the best you can get on an annual sub is 200,000/£1989), and again then only great value for redemption is Club/First long-haul with an AMEX companion voucher. That’s still 100,000+ miles + £2-3k in fees/taxes for two.
You can save a little on Club Europe flights, or “miles/money”, but IMHO the savings are small for tieing up your money. Of course you need to take into account the card fees, hence why the Barclays account add-on is great value.
Perhaps its better you say how many you already have, and how you plan to use the points – others will be able to give you a better idea of whether its worth collecting.
The orginal price at £1798 for 200000 or 0.89p per avios was good value, mines rolled over into 2023/24. Wonder how long this will go on for.
Forgot plus 1798 * 1.5 for paying by Amex.
I have to say the general friendliness and support exhibited to fellow HfP’s in this thread is in stark contrast to the vitriol flowing freely in the adjacent thread (at the time of writing) on jobs at BA.
The absence of certain posters here, and their presence there, is notable.

Hi thank you for your offer to help.
I’ve been collecting since end of August and currently have approx 75,000 however during that time I have booked 2 x CE to Madeira and 2 x CE to Kefalonia both for next year.
I think my plan to use points long term is to go to somewhere in Asia, as we have never visited, maybe Mauritius or Thailand or Singapore. This plan seems to rely on my OH being excepted for the BAPP next year to get a 241 to be used in 2025, so I need to pay a waiting game in one sense and in another keep trying to add AVIOS to my account in a slow but steady way.
