All,
Need advice on how best to get 2 companion vouchers for business class. Circumstances are:
I have started to travel a lot with my job: 6-8 long haul in premium economy per year plus some short haul. I have a blue BA Amex card which I use for business travel and personal spending. My company pays for flights and hotel directly and I claim the rest. As a result I will accrue 250k airmiles per year and meet the min spending requirement.
My dilemma is that I have 11.5k on my Amex blue and want to upgrade to the premium card. If I do this will my current blue points transfer and will the resulting companion voucher be valid for 2 years? Or should I consider anything else?
I would like to treat my family to business class long haul just once, probably to the far east, and I think that this will be the only way I can afford it.
Thanks
With both the Blue and BAPP, the Avios earned transfer automatically to your BA Exec account each month, so I’m not clear what you mean by “will my current blue points transfer” – if you’re asking simply about the points earned in the current month, then you won’t lose them, the upgrade from Blue to BAPP is seamless.
Assuming you haven’t already earned a voucher this card year on the Blue card (and it doesn’t sound like it, as I think you’re saying you have spent 11.5k on it so far?) then after upgrading, the voucher you receive (after meeting the spend threshold for your new BAPP) has all the benefits that go with that card, e.g. 2-year validity, can be used for Business/First, etc.
If you want to earn two vouchers in a single card year, then if your partner meets the minimum income requirement, you could refer them for a BAPP – you earn Avios for referring, and they qualify for a sign-up bonus if they spend £3k in first 3 months. If they already have a BA Exec account, they may find an offer there to take out a BAPP (i.e. not being referred by you) for an enhanced signup bonus of 60k Avios.
