Not sure if anyone else has ever had this happen but I just got the recent Hilton £75 cashback offer denied as it was only for payment on check out.
My mistake – on checking in the hotel asked if I wanted to settle the bill so I didn’t need to do it the next day. This often happens and as I knew I wasn’t having any incidental spend I said “yes”. The charge then appeared on the invoice and in Amex’s system as a pre-payment so when I queried why the £75 cashback hadn’t credited I was told the transaction didn’t meet the T&C as I didn’t pay on check out.
A bit harsh in my mind but lesson learned – if you have this offer from Amex make sure you wait to pay when you check out 🙁
That’s nonsense. Complete tosh. You are due the money.
If the payment went via the hotel’s in-house system then the money is due. In 99% of cases pre-paying a Hilton also triggers the cashback – I did it myself early this month, just before the current deal ended.
