Forums Payment cards American Express BA Amex rules for qualifying for bonus

  • 11 posts

The article for the BA AMEX PP says that “sign-up bonus is only available to customers who have not held a British Airways or British Airways Premium Plus American Express card in the previous 24 months” – https://www.headforpoints.com/2022/02/13/review-the-british-airways-american-express-premium-plus-credit-card/

….but the article for the BA AMEX says that “bonus is only available to customers who have not held a personal American Express card in the previous 24 months” – https://www.headforpoints.com/2022/02/12/review-british-airways-american-express-ba-amex-credit-card-2/

Just want to double-check…I would have expected BA AMEX to have the same condition as the BA AMEX PP

    Those are correct.

BAPP: Must not have held any BA Amex in the last 24 months. This means if you hold a gold card you are eligible for the bonus.
BA: Must not have held any personal Amex at all in the last 24 months. So if you did hold a gold card you are not eligible for the bonus.

Gotcha, thanks. Just to confirm…the BA AMEX doesn’t qualify as a personal AMEX when applying for the platinum or gold AMEX.

If you have any BA Amex, and not held any other personal card in the last 24 months, you will only be eligible for the Platinum Card bonus.

The Plat & BAPP have improved bonus condition where you simply must not have another card within the same card family in the last 24 months.

BAPP: Must not have had any BA Avios card in last 24 months
Plat: Must not have had any Membership Rewards card in last 24 months

BA & Gold both require zero personal cards in the last 24 months to get the bonus.

Any BA Amex will disqualify from a SUB on the MR gold.

Ahh….okay, thanks makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Is there a qualifying time period after getting the BAPP before you can refer a friend for the card?
