Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA Avios to Buenos Aires

  • 36 posts

Hi, I’m looking to go from London to Buenos Aires next year on Avios. BA fly there with a stopover in Rio using the same plane.

I can see loads of Business availability from London to Rio (& back) & from Rio to Buenos Aires (& back) – i.e. the plane that stops in Rio has 4 seats available on all legs on loads of dates, however when trying to book London to Buenos Aires it says there’s no availability except for August this year. Any ideas, in theory I could book the Rio & Buenos Aires legs separately as it’s the same plane so I can’t miss a connection but I want to use a companion voucher or upgrade voucher so would end up paying more.

Do I have to call to book?

@Tristoph – this has been raised in another thread earlier today. Each of the three combinations – LHR-EZE, LHR-GIG and GIG-EZE have their individual Avios availabilities, like married segments so while you can see availability on the two sectors, BA won’t combine currently but may do much nearer departure. You can’t book both sectors individually as, even without luggage, you won’t be able to get back to the aircraft in time and if you attempt to book it should fail.

I would advise to check IB from Madrid. Direct flight, cheaper taxes and less avios. You need of course a positioning return ticket from/to LHR

Yes, Iberia is just so much better and cheaper unless someone is wanting to use a Barclays voucher.

    Thanks for the replies.

I wanted to go BA so I could do Club Suite the whole way rather than narrow body to / from Madrid (unless I happen to get the one wide body flight!) – & also may use my Barclaycard voucher.

@JDG thanks, I hadn’t considered that because it’s a separate ticket I would have to deplane & check-in again.. Really frustrating that they wouldn’t offer a through ticket when there are reward flights available for all legs

Just be warned that should your IB flight be delayed, getting your legally entitled compensation from them is the most frustrating thing I’ve experienced. Be sure to book via BA as making changes is much easier with them also.

It may not work with your itinerary, but we went out to Buenos Aires and come back from São Paulo, getting Club Avios redemptions on each way. I called BA and combined them to get the Avios back. Or you could take a LATAM or Aerolinias flight to either São Paulo or Rio and then pick up BA from there. It actually worked better for us since Igausu is the last stop on our trip so we’d have to fly back to somewhere anyway to get a flight back to the U.K.

Thanks Aaron. How did you get the Buenos Aires avios flight though? They seem to only release them a week before the flight (despite loads of availablity to Rio & from Rio to Buenos Aires).
