Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA cancelling flight BA164 and refuses to pay expenses – what are my options?

@meta I have accurately read the whole thread. You have clearly decided that the OP misunderstood the information given to him and that it was firstly, and always, a delay and that the OP is essentially lying or trying to game the system. @JDB even mentioned the passenger going rogue! There is absolutely no empathy or compassion in this thread – and that’s sad considering someone is asking for help.

What you are both missing/ignoring is that this passenger followed the instructions given to him by the official BA agent. Its easy for frequent flyers to know that the BA agent is talking rubbish. By for average Joe flyer – they are following what they’ve been told. If that’s wrong then its BA’s fault because their agent got it wrong. The OP has clearly stated that an official BA agent informed him in an official capacity that the flight was cancelled. In law, the OP is then entitled to act on that information.

Having been in this position before, I can tell you that when I was told at check-in that the flight is cancelled, and that I should make my own arrangements as there are not the staff locally available to rebook passengers, that is what I did. The letter I received from the airline did explain that they would make the alternative arrangements but the person who handed it to me clearly told me to ignore it and make my own arrangements. In the few years since then I’ve flown a lot more and would now take a different approach but then I was green and did as I was told.

I have been here – and been successful. That is the basis of my advice. If the OP is lying then he won’t succeed as his account will unravel. If the OP is being truthful then fight on.
