Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Club Europe from London City – what a sorry state of affairs

  • 26 posts

Just had a flight from Greece to London City in Club Europe and besides the amazing City airport, BA has managed to outshine itself again. Typically, club Europe flights from this airport have no lounge, no priority queues, and no middle seats that are left empty so you expect food to make up for the fact that club Europe flights from City are more than double the price. Yet, on our flight, food was a tasteless vegetarian option (meat options had run out). Also the cabin, water dripping all over from the air con units onto us, our seats and our food.

Why do people tolerate and keep flying BA?

At LCY the lack of a lounge, no priority boarding and no empty middle seat are well known.

The food issue is unfortunate but lack of choice also affects LHR and LGW flights,

As a matter of interest, which other airlines flying from LCY offer business lounges, priority queues, middle seat free?

This what’s known as a ‘race to the bottom’.

The presumably hefty price premium for Business class should offer tangible benefits and a quality product, delivered with a modicum of competence no?

It wasn’t a justification for the lack of them with BA, it’s a genuine question about which (if) other airlines flying from LCY have that sort of a business offering in general.

So you took a flight, got what you expected at the airport and from the airplane seating plan, but then complain because the meal wasn’t what you wanted?

The dripping water doesn’t sound great, but otherwise I’m not sure what the fuss is about?

If only the babybus was still flying out of LCY on some shorter routes!

I presume you will never fly BA again?

There would be absolutely no point to having priority security queues at LCY, there’s almost no-one who uses the airport who doesn’t have status. Likewise with lounges, it’s not a hang-around for long kind of airport with lots of connecting passengers. It’s turn up about half an hour before boarding.

Plenty of places to buy treats if you want to at the airport though.

It would make things really tight on board an Embraer 175 if you were to have a middle seat put in just to to leave it empty. 2+2 seating throughout is quite pleasant.

The nominess of food is a matter of personal taste. I do find that the meals are usually salad type on my regular LCY-EDI trips and are often served far too cold. Give it a chance to come up to room temperature next time and you might find it a bit tastier.

Why worry about what ‘people’ do. You didn’t like the service don’t use them again.

This person tolerates them and keeps flying BA for a number of reasons. Firstly never travel in CE from or to LCY unless you’re desperate for airline food and drink. The best seats are Emergency Exits and these are ET. In terms of more than double the price, double the price of what, CE to LHR or ET on the same flight, regardless if you really paid double I’d say that’s a fail by you, there nothing about CE to/from LCY to overpay for.

There are a number of things BA do poorly, but there are no complete alternates from London.

What did the cabin crew say about the food and the aircon, did you complain to them, and did you get any response.

The dripping water seems a specific issue and I’d suggest a complaint to BA on that basis solely, you’ll probably be chucked a few thousand Avios for your trouble.

I made the mistake of travelling CE to London City last week. I wasn’t aware of the lack of CE benefits. The salad was really poor and in row 1, there was constant water dripping. I complained by email and was given 15k Avios each for me and my partner. In future it will be exit rows for London City.

In fairness to OP, the BA service from London City in Economy is vastly different to how it’s marketed everywhere else, and many CE benefits aren’t offered. An economy flight is often nice from LCY, not that I understand why BA still offer extras on these routes and not others.

I was expecting a great meal and no dripping water on my head and my meal. Since it sounds like you work for BA, is it that hard to get very basic things right?

There’s your answer @DK – complain and at least you may get £150 worth of Avios each…

I am well aware that CE benefits aren’t offered. That’s why there is supposed to be great meal service to make up for all of these lack of other amenities. So when the ONLY thing that’s supposed to be good isn’t, this is a huge failure. Also, how f*cking hard is it to get a few extra non-vegetarian meals on board?

Apparently they would need a third cabin crew member to operate a buy on board service in economy. They have difficulty recruiting and retaining cabin crew anyway, so it’s cheaper to provide food and drink.

I don’t want to complain. I want to have basic things done right for a ticket that is worth £800+ for a 4-hour flight. It is not much to ask to not have dripping water over your head and have a few extra non-vegetarian meals loaded with the flight.

I think that’s nonsense, where are you told you’ll get a great meal to make up for the ‘lack of amenities’?

Oh. Why did you buy the CE ticket then?

I’ve flown Swiss from LCY in business (as a connecting flight to a long haul business itinerary). The plane was a 2+3 seating layout but with 2 seats blocked in the business class section, so effectively 1+2 seating. Priority boarding for the plane, but of course no lounge or priority security as those are not available at LCY.

All the LH Group airlines leave the seat beside you empty in the J cabin on their small aircraft. Even the tiddler that serves LPL. Which is handy as underseat storage is as spacious as overhead on the CRJ900

Lol. Your posts have been nothing but complaints.

You complained even about the things you knew weren’t offered!

Where did I complain about things are not offered? Can you even read?

    3,351 posts

Yes I can read thanks very much.

Personal insults don’t help get you any sympathy.

Nor does resorting to obscenities even if you use a ‘*’ instead of a ‘u’ (see that shows I can read)

And no I don’t work for BA either. So don’t even think of trying that one (see another example of my reading abilities)

If you are unhappy then (a) complain to BA and (b) fly with an other airline. But the grass is rarely any more green on the other side.
