Since it sounds like you work for BA
😂😂😂
Wow, so wrong.
Yes I can read thanks very much.
Personal insults don’t help get you any sympathy.
Nor does resorting to obscenities even if you use a ‘*’ instead of a ‘u’ (see that shows I can read)
And no I don’t work for BA either. So don’t even think of trying that one (see another example of my reading abilities)
If you are unhappy then (a) complain to BA and (b) fly with an other airline. But the grass is rarely any more green on the other side.
How sad someone’s life can be. ‘BA flyer’ ‘IHG stayer’ as a username tells me everything I need to know..
@DK. You’re coming over as a bit pathetic. You had a little public rant which boiled down to food you didn’t like and some aircon issues. Rather than complain to BA you posted a thread here, didn’t get the affirmation and piling on you wanted. Then when perfectly valid points were made you responded with attempts at personal slights. If you can’t respond to specific points just move on. The post above says far more about you than it does BA flyer.

I must say I see both end of this debate. CE can be disappointing in short haul for many because it is. Some of us just accept it and move on, as there is no realistic alternative. The disappointment of CE gets worse for LCY, which is completely understandable — most people still try to move on from that due to the characteristics of LCY. Therefore what is left is at least a bit decent food and service. Once you don’t even get that, it may become truly annoying. I annually fly few times one of BA’s longest short haul routes in Club, and every time there is something relatively disturbing and annoying. Never had a perfect short haul flight with BA in CE. And finding excuses for BA is not something I excel at.

I agree! The complaint is fair – when there is less to differentiate CE and ET from LCY, meal choice issues especially which are common for BA would be more annoying.
There is little point in this thread though. I’d say most readers here know CE is less worthwhile from LCY and would be less likely to pay much of a premium for it. As for the question of why do people still fly BA, it is tiring.

What’s pathetic is this whole points game that drives consumer choices and keeps airlines like BA in existence. Does anyone really believe BA would still be around with this subpar service if it wasn’t for its avios program? You and others got outraged because my post has hit a nerve with something that has become your obsession. You think that you can now afford to fly premium cabins when there is nothing premium about any of this.
And you wonder why the CEO of Qatar Airways calls BA a low cost airline.
Customer Service in the western world has literally become a pile of cr@p. Heck, you even have BA agents at London Heathrow which is their HUB, telling you to go away from the check-in desks because they cannot help you at times of disruption and sort things out yourself. Qatar had a flight cancellation in DOHA and we were all given food vouchers, hotels and the likes within an hour of cancellation, BA tell you to sort it out yourself.

Your trolling is brilliant 😂😂😂
Quoted from your first comment “BA has managed to outshine itself *again*”, now *we’re* the ones keeping BA afloat by flying them 😂
I can’t quite see why people would pay good money for CE full stop, given the price delta between CE and ET. Of course, if the company is footing the bill, or it’s a points run to maintain status or something, then it can be worth it, but for routine flying, I don’t get it.
Especially out of City. I had my first flight out of city last week to Barcelona, in ET. The E-Jets are spacious and being 2-2 layouts you don’t feel as hemmed in, and it’s the exact same in CE. The food we got was reasonable – far more than I expected, given previous short haul flights out of Heathrow. The Bakewell cake in particular is delicious.
Out of LCY, CE gets you more points, better food (even if it’s not to OP’s taste), and luggage allowance. Can’t quite see how it’s worth the price premium over ET for most trips.
Weirdly, on the outbound, my boarding group was 3 (BA Bronze) but my husband’s was 5 (BA Blue). It was the same booking, I even had checked in and saved both our boarding cards on my phone! They were boarding by group number, so presumably all CE passengers were group 1?

You do realise that BA is not a nasty pizza shop around the corner? And Avios geeks are a small small minority.
If you are so dreamy of British aviation, I’d like to refer you to all the comments for Global airways. They will really change the world!!!!@DK You’re clearly venting your spleen here and not getting the responses you want to hear.
You state over several posts:
“Typically, club Europe flights from this airport have no lounge, no priority queues, and no middle seats that are left empty so you expect food to make up for the fact
I am well aware that CE benefits aren’t offered. That’s why there is supposed to be great meal service to make up for all of these lack of other amenities.
Also, how…hard is it to get a few extra non-vegetarian meals on board?
I don’t want to complain. I want to have basic things done right for a ticket that is worth £800+ for a 4-hour flight”
I have to ask you how exactly do you think BA Cityflyer is going to improve its service if you don’t complain to them? Telling us isn’t going to help as we aren’t going to complain on your behalf.
Also, if you are aware of the “benefits” of travelling CE from LCY why did you choose to apparently pay £800 to do so?
It sounds like all you were expecting was a gourmet non-vegetarian meal.
But I don’t believe you can be that naive. You weren’t forced to pay anything to BA or indeed to fly in CE on their LCY service. You chose to do so, apparently knowing the downsides of doing so from LCY.
You accuse two other fellow HfPers of working for BA or for being BA apologists. Neither comment gets you the sympathy you were hoping for. It just reflects badly on you. (And, before you accuse me, I dont work for BA either).
At this point I am also unsure what help you expect to get from any of us since you’ve been given practical advice on how to resolve the issue.
Going forward I suggest you avoid BA CityFlyer and LCY. There are several competitors to select instead although not many of them fly from London to your Greek destination at a time or price that suits you while serving gourmet non-vegetarian meals.
@vc-10 If you and other passengers fly together on the same PNR you can all board in the same group as the passenger with highest group boarding number.
Yes all CE passengers would usually be Group1 together with Gold members. Silver would be Group2 unless they were in CE, in which case they’d be Group1, as would you even with Bronze.
That said at LCY I don’t really think it makes much difference. Also I don’t really get the desire to get on board before anyone else. It’s not as if you’re going to leave any earlier and all you have is everyone else trundling by.
As for the reasons why people pay to travel CE, you answered your own question in the very same paragraph. I’d add getting lounge access (except at LCY) to the list of reasons.
Fares from LCY can occasionally be quite outrageous with BA (especially for some seasonal routes) so if you combine that with the fact that you get something that is effectively a CE-lite, I can see how and why some people are upset.
For me, LCY is my favourite airport and the fact that it doesn’t have a lounge is also part of the appeal. Gates are usually announced about 20 minutes before take-off, when for most other airports, 20 minutes before the scheduled take-off is when the gates are supposed to close with all passengers onboard. So the real luxury here is time saved.
Obviously comments about the food are always going to be subjective, but my personal experience tells me that CityFlyer catering has consistently outperformed BA’s LHR services, and in fact there’s a flyertalk thread towards that effect too. There’s bound to be some misses, obviously, but so far I’m a big fan.
However, I’d say the E190s are definitely starting to show their age, although I’m enjoying the thick padded seats that come with them. More modern craft, from the A220s to the E2s all have slimmer seats onboard.
Anyway, maybe give it another go at some point. I know one person who wasn’t a fan previously who now is a big proponent, so you never know. For me, long may LCY live….
London City to Jersey this morning, the food choice was a Pastrami Muffin. Only one person in the cabin tried it – and he sent it back, as it was cold!
I had the vegetarian alternative instead, which was a packet of crisps!
Apart from that, a very pleasant flight (but I was very glad I’d eaten breakfast at home).
I flew with OH for the first time this week from LCY to EDI in CE. I wasn’t expecting a lounge but the airport was ok with loads of space. Whilst the crew do a great job serving food and drinks on a short flight the only bad thing was the food. It was disgusting. I declined as by Row 3 all the non vegetarian meals had gone (all 6 portions ). My OH took her tray and handed it back almost immediately. I don’t think hardly anyone in the rows behind wanted it either. The starter really did look like roadkill that had been scraped up. I genuinely have no idea what it was.
I never book CE from LCY for the exact reason that there is no lounge or fast track and the 2-2 seating is great in Economy.
The only time I have flown CE from LCY has been on a redemption, where the cost of redeeming Avios for CE was actually less than the £ cost of paying for ET (and where there clearly weren’t avios seats available in ET). I would personally never pay cash for CE from LCY, but sometimes if I want a specific flight or want to fly from LCY (we live in SE London so very convenient) and its worth redeeming for LCY CE then I will do so.

Same here I have done LCY CE 3 times since I started flying short-haul in 2011 – first because it was the best option to get to silver for the first time and the other two because redeeming was cheaper than ET even at 1.2p per avios.
