Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club British Airways Club World from Gatwick – worth it?

  • 19 posts

Quickly booked LGW-CPT in business last night with the article posted on here yesterday using a companion voucher. Would never in a month of Sunday’s pay the cost of the ticket as seen on sky scanner so seems like good use of avios and a voucher.

Since, however I have seen some peoples view on BA’s business class offering out of Gatwick and it doesn’t fill me with confidence. We’re not normal business class flyers so am i not to be bothered by this and just carry on and experience what i would imagine to be an upgrade on normal flights?

    Any thoughts/view welcomed.

The BA lounge in Gatwick is excellent. Their temporary one in the pandemic was pants but that’s over now.

Checkin is a bit of a zoo even for CW though better if you are gold as they still have a First line despite there being no First any more.

People here are generally love/hate on the old CW seat which you are likely to get. It’s not the best and getting old but it’s still a million times better than an economy seat. I’m expecting that seat to MIA today and I’m looking forward to the flight.

Food has been a bit ropey but updates are coming that should improve it.

BA crew are pot luck. Sometimes the best, sometimes terrible (though never the worst!)

If you’re travelling overnight (as you will be to CPT) then old CW is better than CS in my & many others opinions.

The sleeping area is larger & more comfortable with no cubby hole for feet. If solo get a window seat, if a couple then a middle pair & you’ll have an incredibly private space. Other benefit is slight head up rather than head down incline as rear facing. Yes, you will have to potentially step over someone’s legs to get out but it’s not difficult if you don’t have restricted mobility/flexibility.

The advantages of CS are: door (gimmick), bigger higher definition IFE screen (minimal use when you want to sleep) & better storage immediately around seat (again, no big deal overnight). Direct aisle access would be a benefit if restricted mobility or of an age when you need to pop to the loo multiple times a night.

Either option is perfectly adequate & flights to RSA are really worth the premium for J as long enough to get a decent sleep so with absence of jet lag you’re basically stretching holiday by 2 days.
