    How do monthly subscription avios deals work?

    E.g Adobe is offering 85 avios/£ when signing up for a subscription. Can I cancel after a month and keep the avios even if it’s issued 90-120 days later?

    On a similar note, does anyone know have any similar high return offers they’ve made use of to quickly accumulate points? Also if anyone has used this offer – what was the lower reward rate for paying for a subscription with a one time payment?

    BA estore transactions are often clawed back, sometimes a long time afterwards and without any apparent reason. So my advice would be to only buy things you actually want, and treat the avios as a bonus. I certainly wouldn’t buy something just for the avios, as there’s a pretty significant chance that you won’t get them.

    Lula is absolutely right, I have had a lot of legit transactions clawed back for no apparent reason..

    Once they cancelled a transaction because I tried to use a voucher code on the site I was buying from. I know this is a no-no but I usually prefer solid discounts to potential referral points earnings, but the voucher here was actually expired (hence the “tried”) so i didn’t benefit from it.

    The points were clawed back and when I queried it, it was because I had attempted to use a voucher code, regardless of the fact that it wasn’t accepted.

    They are very quick to refuse the points, though I am certain BA still get to trouser the referral cash their end.

    Yep, I gave up on the e-store some time ago because of avios being clawed back, often months after the original purchase. You have to wonder if it’s actually cost effective for them to have people doing this?! Once it was because I qualified for free P & P on an order, which just seemed petty!

    It costs nothing to place an order via the BA e-store and although they do indeed sometimes claw back for no apparent reason, I follow up any bigger ones and they usually concede so I reckon about 90% stick. There are so many retailers and service providers on there and luxury shops frequently have 10/12 Avios/£1 such that you don’t need a particularly big spend to earn quite a lot from everyday spend.

    Agree with JDB here: In the past year I’ve earned 30k avios via the BA e-store, mainly on hotel bookings (you can double-dip points on nearly all the hotels loyalty schemes -except Hilton – for all cash bookings) and offers that I wanted anyway (like the Economist subscription, again which was a double-dip with Amex). Sometimes things don’t track or get refused for technical reasons but mostly it just works for me and adds a bonus earn for little additional effort.

    There are of course other, often healthy alternatives to the e-store. Always worth doing your research before committing to that route.

    Adobe Customer Service are atrocious. They lie, do not respect cancellation notices etc etc.
    Go in with your eyes open.

    okay thanks for the heads up – I’ll probably avoid the adobe spend as I’ll prob be worse off if it gets clawed back.

    Do you mind clarifying what you mean by double dip? Do you mean using your amex to earn the extra avios from the e-store and the standard avios amount/£ spent?

    Well you can get points at least 3 ways on those bookings. You book a hotel via the BA estore, and get avios for doing so. On the hotel stay you get points because you booked direct, and not via a third party agent, and then you can get points for paying on your amex or other reward card.

    Yes @Lula had explained better than I did. There are other portals available (say that in a Frankie Howerd voice) but I prefer to avoid the cash back ones and to earn additional travel rewards – a much more aspirational return can be achieved, whereas it always feels to me that cash back gets swallowed up in general expenses…

    To go into more detail on the BA e-store hotel options, all main hotel chains except Hilton & Hyatt seem to participate:
    Accor / Best Western / Britannia Hotels / CitizenM/ IHG / Marriott / Radisson / Red Carnation / Travelodge (!) all earn you avios

    For other hotels you can use Hotels.com or Booking.com also via the BA portal (although you won’t normally then get any rewards from the hotel’s own loyalty scheme so you’ll need to weigh up the benefits) Even Tripadvisor is on there too.

    For Disney trips the Disney Travel Company and Disney park tickets also earn via the portal.

    All of this is subject to change or course and may be out of date as it’s a while since I checked some of these but it is another way to Rachel up reward earnings!

    I am forever getting declined transactions. I am currently contesting a Gant transaction that they have reversed. It seems to be very hit-and-miss. I tend to challenge these as I am sceptical of their motives – I suspect not wanting to BA is a prime reason for some sellers.

    I always make sure I re-read the term and conditions and use these against BA / the vendor i.e. they are in breach of their own Terms and Conditions, which is a breach of contract and I shall be instructing my legal counsel. This tends to focus minds and the Avios get re-credited.

    I use incognito browser when purchasing via e-store and clear cookies and browsing history first. I also make sure that I screen shot the tracking link page on e-store and screen shot the purchase process on the actual website showing that I’ve not clicked anywhere else. I also make sure I don’t click on any discount on the website as e-store uses that as a reason to claw Avios back. I treat the Avios as a bonus and if they claw back then so be it.

    I’ve never bothered with the BA e-store after reading the numerous reports of unexpected clawbacks/declines. Been using Virgin’s one for a few years and can happily say that I’ve had no issue with tracking/earning there so far.

    I’ve discovered an annoying glitch with BA’s e-store in that if you make 2 transactions in a day the first one tracks fine but it always misses the second one so I end up having to make a manual claim which gets credited eventually. It’s just annoying that the process isn’t as seamless as it should be.

    I think this is a dodgy profit grab by BA / Collinson.

    What you are told is that if you click through and purchase, you get some Avios (and BA gets some cash).

    In reality, if you click and buy anything in the next 2-4 weeks – depending on merchant – BA gets some cash. Does it choose to give you that cash from purchases made later than the initial click? Probably not. Neither do any of the cashback sites. They are robbing you.
