Hi can someone help – advice for a BA gold member travelling on AA within the US
I wish to book MIA-LAS on AA travelling in economy on a hand luggage only fare booked on AA website
Have a few questions
1 – As a BA gold member , will I get any checked luggage free of charge on a hand luggage only fare ?
2 – Will me and my wife (she has no status) get access to any lounges in MIA ? If so are they any good ?
3 – Do we get free seat assignment or will this be chargeable
Thanks for advise
No idea on 1. The AA Flagship lounge in Miami is very nice, and you’ll have access as a OW Emerald. On 3. I think you can but not 100%.
As OneWorld emerald you get:
– extra luggage (so even if 0 you get 1. Only BA does not allow that)
– lounge access as business or first
– Yes

Yes, you’ll get all that, and as Gold/Emerald you’ll be first in line for an upgrade, though how good this will be would depend on what kind of aircraft you’re on. I’m Silver and we got upgraded to the F cabin due to overbooking at Xmas flying DCA to Key West. It was on an American Eagle service which was pretty ropy anyway but it meant a bigger seat and extra legroom for 3 hours!
I haven’t flown from MIA for a few years, but if they have the automated bag-checking system like at DCA, it will “know” that you’re OW Emerald and not charge you for your checked bags. I was entitled to 2 free, so I would imagine you’d get at least that.

You don’t get onto the AA upgrade list by default as a BA OWE
BA OWE on an AA HBO gets just one bag, not sure how you got two (economy redemption) but AA agents can either be hit or miss as in theory you can have three bags
BA OWE does get premium Y seating including MCE Seats – main cabin extra
You might want to see if there are any Avios seats as they can be exceptionally good value (and do get two bags)
