Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA Holiday transfer to resort – how to add a car seat?

  • 855 posts

I am planning to book an all-inclusive resort with BA Holiday as my tier point run in Greece (one of the ikos). There will be a 5-month-old baby in the party so I think the easiest thing is to book a hotel transfer.

I have 2 choices, add the request with the resort who claims they provide a car seat, it is about £30 cheaper. Or book it with BA Holidays who says tell us if you need to extra stuff or have a lot of luggage e.g. prams etc. But there is nowhere in the booking for me to tell them to add the car seat???

Has anyone booked a transfer with BA holidays who can tell me how do I do that. And is there any risk that I might not get one. We land at 9pm so don’t want too much faff. Or am I better to book with the resort?

for such a young baby I would always take my own car seat – you have no idea whether a rented one will be safe. Though I suppose if you’re not going anywhere other than the airport and back in a car it’s a lot less faff.

Grrr. Rental companies charge silly money for a car seat. At that age I’d definitely be taking my own, both for cost and security. And at 5 months, it needs to be comfortable. You can probably buy a good new car seat and leave it for less than a rental.

For older children we used a Bubblebum booster seat (good for both the car and plane – not TO/Land).

Sorry never travelled with a baby before as this is my niece. I assume I would not need a car seat for the plane as we didn’t get her a seat and hoping to get a bassinet seat. Btw what happens if we don’t get a bassinet seat?

If we bring a seat my sister need to know how to install it into the transfer car as we are not renting a car. Do they let you faff with adding a car seat assuming my sister knows how to..

I’m not renting a car just a transfer i.e someone is driving us there and back.

If you don’t get a bassinet the baby just stays on your knee. I’m not sure they have bassinets on short haul though?

Car seats are usually either Isofix or fixed with the seat belt, they’re very simple to swap between different cars.

There are no bassinets on short haul BA. Baby will be on your laps. This is where club Europe with the free middle seat comes into it’s own.

If it’s the hotel providing the transfer just contact them once booked and let them know you’ll need them to bring one. Most hotels providing a transfer service will be fine with this.

Seems to say bassinets are only on long haul flights. I can’t recall ever being blocked from reserving a seat on a short-haul trip because it was a bassinet location.

I haven’t done a BAH with a baby but have been to two Ikos resorts, both times with BAH. Although I’ve not used BAH transfers for the past few years I have heard other Pax complaining that they don’t turn up and can be pricey. IKOS do have decent car seats I believe and if you email the hotel you can ask for this to be included if you use their transport. Their transfers were in very luxurious mini vans. I think they have a desk at each airport and I’ve never heard of their transfers not being there to meet the flight.

In the last two years we had access to a free hire car for a day at IKOS and other guests definitely got car seats for this purpose. Well worth emailing the hotel to reserve a car for a day and to arrange all your A La carte restaurants at the time you want as you are likely to be disappointed or be very flexible if you don’t. (Though you might prefer the flexibility of the buffet) Ikos is always 99% capacity even first week of season. Also request baby equipment and pre book nursery etc etc.

There are lots of other things you can pre request – if you can bear it, join your specific IKOS hotel facebook group and there will be a wealth of information there.

I digress, your question was about transfers. In our experience the IKOS transfer was about 50% more than a pre booked local taxi. If you want to save your euros have a look on the above facebook groups and there will be recommended taxis [potentially who have car seats] – we used Lion transfers for Halkidiki (Oceania and Olivia) and Kefalos tours for Aria. But no car seat experience.

    You’ll have a great holiday

As per @SteveJ, if you’re in CE it’ll be much easier with the free middle seat as you can put all the baby and other stuff there!

Ah, OK. Personally I’d just book with the resort – at least then you’re guaranteed a car seat (make sure you specify the age of of the baby). They are very easy to fix and the driver will know how – just make sure the baby belt is a snug fit. Take all the time you need to ensure you’re happy (and baby’s happy).

The only other thought for CE, is if you take a seat with you on the plane you can sit it in the middle seat (am sure the cabin crew will remove the middle tray for you). Might make for a more comfortable flight for all.
