Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help BA – no seats to select – have we been bumped ?

  • 90 posts

Have been checking seat availability all week, to see what remains. Not it only shows 1 seat to select, when there are 4 passengers. My official online check-in opens in around 3 hours so will have a clearer picture then, but just a bit worried that no seats means a problem. As a tight Yorkshireman, there is no way I was paying BA to book in advance.

Anyone got experience of similar things ? We are in premium economy if it helps.

What flight number & destination? I could check the full seat map as some seats may be blocked not occupied due to Theoretical Seating. These will be used if needed.

I’d also say that upgrades to business are more common than downgrades to economy although I wouldn’t hold out too much hope it’ll be you upgraded as a party of 4.

This happens to me all the time. Try not to worry.

In most cases it’s because we fly with an infant and the airport team take control of the seats.

But, if you’re on an avios ticket and the flight is no longer in sale you may be bumped. If so, do update us.

Tobynow, thanks for the input. I tried to quote your comment and reply, but somehow clicked the report button – REALLY SORRY ! Can’t see a way to unreport it.

We have 2 teens with us; yes it’s an Avios flight.

Just tried a test cash booking and the flight is not available ! Nothing in Economy or Premium.

Managed to speak to an agent who said we will be assigned them when we get to LHR tomorrow; let’s see.

30A 30K 31E 32J 34E are all blocked, mostly likely for theoretical seating, 34F is unallocated.

In a small cabin like WT+ you’re always have a sprinkling of random seats unless you pay, albeit you may not care.

It’s showing 1 seat available for booking and 5 blocked on Expert Flyer. There are 8 seats free in club so I would hope they will upgrade someone and free up seats in PE. There’s also a good chance there are some fully flexible bookings on the flight that may cancel on the day. BA are also still willing to sell 2 seats in PE for the flight so I wouldn’t worry too much yet. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. Perfectly happy if we sit apart; had expected it, and the kids are old enough to be self sufficient. Will just wait and see.

This also happens to us quite a bit. I’m now Silver – yay – but as a tight Mancunian married to a man who was born in Yorkshire, we don’t pay for seats either! This has had some unexpected benefits in the past such as being allocated row 1 at check in and also once being flubbed to the F cabin on a 12 hour flight to GCM, which was very nice!

I always get a Peter Kay-like voice in my head saying “Pay? For a seat? Just to sit on?” 😂
*Though I have seen the actual Peter Kay driving a Rolls Royce on Middlebrook Retail Park near Bolton so who knows?!

Sorry for the delay in updating. Still enjoying NYC for another few days. We got allocated row 33, 4 seats together in the middle.
Having never flown Premium Economy before, we were very impressed.
The return leg is Business, so very excited about that. Only possible due to sign up bonuses and 241 vouchers with BA Prem Plus Amex. Bucket list tick for me.
Kidd are totally spoiled at 12 and 14 !
