Hi all, doing some last minute Christmas shopping and had a question re the 5500 bonus promotion, the terms and conditions say that this applies to transactions that are made within the period up to the 31st, but does this apply to when the transaction is paid for at the merchant or when the avios is awarded to your account I.e if a purchase is made on the 16th Dec but doesn’t get awarded until the 7th Jan would the bonus apply?

The T&Cs aren’t clear but I’m presuming as long as it tracks before the 31st Dec, then we should be fine.
Especially as it can take up to 35 days for Avios to be awarded on tracked transactions.

The two bonuses I’ve received so far have both posted the day after I got the notification that I had been awarded Avios for buying through the BA shopping portal. I have just noticed that 3 further transactions (all with M&S) have not received any Avios, let alone the bonus, so I now need to do a missing Avios claim as the products have been delivered. Will update if that triggers the bonus.
Just to update on my post I cannot claim missing Avios until 10 days has passed and the M&S specific T&Cs state that “Queries can only be investigated after 45 days from the date the purchase was made.” so I have to wait a bit longer to see if the Avios post and if the bonus Avios will be awarded. I’ve taken a screen shot of the bonus offer on the shopping site as I definitely did a purchase within the time period.
Some retailers do ‘speedy awards’ where you get the Avios a few days after the transaction. M&S isn’t one of them and you do have to wait the full 45 days….I presume because of the high number of returns M&S gets and they want to make sure you haven’t returned the items before they award the Avios.
Mine came in batches…
Two on 26/11, four on 7/12, four on 14/12.
Two of the transactions still say ‘pending’, but I’ve now received the full 5500 bonus. Not worried about the pending ones as there are other transactions that could fill the gap if they go pffft.
