Hi All
I’ve read before it’s possible to get Silver status for a 2 year period? (I’ve never understood this)
My tier point year ended 8th Sept 2023 – I had 605 TP & done the necessary flights on BA metal. Ive had my email to say I’ve gained silver for another year. I’m presently in the USA, taking advantage of a double TP offer, I flew out 9th Sept, so my TP will fall into my new collection year. (after this trip I will have 560 TP), so I would only need nther 40 to get to the magical 600.
Where I’m confused is, is there a trick to when I should try & trigger the 40 TP?
Sorry If I’m not making any sense !
Cheers
Before 8th Sept 24.
You are already Silver and won’t be dropping to Bronze.
The 2 years max is only really relative to the 1st time you achieve status.
If your year starts 9th September, if you achieved 600 points on 10th September, then you would have effectively 2 years of status (current BEC year plus following). Every year after that you are just topping up by an extra year.
So you could get your extra 40 points tomorrow, or on the 7th September 2024, either way it will just take you to 8th September 2025.
Hope that makes sense.
Brilliant, thanks for the replies – makes sense now !
But if you manage 600 tier points between 9 September 2025 and 31 October 2025, you will be silver until 8 September 2027.
Then you can hold off until between 9 September 2027 and 31 October 2027 to get another 600 points for silver until 8 September 2029.
Remember you get status for the balance of your tier point year and the subsequent year. So by earning all 600 tier points in the post-year-end grace period you can have constant silver status by only earning 600 tier points every second year (by earning these points over a specific several week period)
So by earning all 600 tier points in the post-year-end grace period you can have constant silver status by only earning 600 tier points every second year (by earning these points over a specific several week period)
And this is why it’s annoying that you can’t change your BAEC year! My grace period is Jan-Feb which is the must difficult time of year for me personally to have off work!
You can change your BAEC year by closing/abandoning an account and opening a new one. I did a few years after I joined.
The only way I could be negatively affected by having done that is if BA decides to create lifetime silver at 10000 TPs.
