At the beginning of 2025 I was in a similar position to that described in https://www.headforpoints.com/2025/04/05/british-airways-status-extension. I was very close to retaining Bronze, only missing 2 or 3 take-offs to get 25, or 35 points. My collection year was due to end in August, so when it ended in March, I didn’t have enough points. I also think I had only re-gained Bronze after the Covid year where I didn’t travel nearly enough the previous year.
As April started, I was happy to see I had kept Bronze. I read linked article and though “yay, I am one of these”. My app (when it worked) showed that I was Bronze and had until the end of March 2026 to retain it. All was well. Every ticket I flew on said Ruby. Until September 2nd, where at midnight it suddenly changed to Blue. A few days later I got an email telling me “Welcome to Blue”, which was… confusing.
I spent over half an hour on the phone with the Bronze tier membership hotline, where the first level support insisted I had had 215 points deducted, so I didn’t have enough, tough. I was very close now, so I should just keep on flying. After a few back and forths of this, I asked to escalate and speak to a manager. She started saying the same things, until I quoted this article at her. Once I mentioned the T&C saying “Any existing status valid beyond 31 March 2025 will continue for the full duration.”, she suddenly replied “Oh I actually see you are right, we will raise a ticket, and it will take 7 to 10 working days”. She then proceeded to tell me that her agent had offered me the same thing, which he had not.
I am now waiting to see whether they actually do this. I asked for an email from her to confirm she was going to, but she said she cannot send email, but would personally keep an eye on it. We shall see.
Has this sudden out-of-period drop after the fact happened to anyone else?
If you got status via a referral from a Gold Guest List member you will still drop. There may be various other comped scenarios where you drop.
If you always earned your status organically from flights then it should stick until March 2026, yes.
