Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA vs IB price on BA flight

  • 1,222 posts

Weird title but hear me out …

Same flight with BA metal from LON to Spain for 7 people: £700 on the IB website, £950 on the BA website. Again, BA flight on BA metal!

Can somebody explain this to me?

(Obviously booking on BA gives you the 24hr cool off period and more Avios if you use AMEX but it is not worth £250!)

£250 surely? Is the BA flight HBO and IB not, though?

Yup, corrected that now hehe … Same flight, same everything. (on the IB website you are simply buying the same flight but on a different website)

The only difference I can think of is the 24hrs cancelation BA gives you and the additional AMEX Avios. Everything else is the SAME.

Noticed yesterday a one-way from EU to UK on BA metal – booking on ba.com was €126 (c.£110) but same flight through iberia.com was £99.
Was also surprised Iberia priced it in GBP, don’t most airlines quote in currency of departure?

They’ll probably have implemented dynamic currency conversion and you get the option to pay in Euro at checkout if you spot the concealed checkbox. Ryanair did that to me this week.

I reported earlier this week that something odd was going on with IB. I saw plenty of flights where biz class was cheaper by between 1 and 50 euro than economy.

IB sometimes has these quirks where Business is just £10-30 more expensive than economy. I recently booked MAD-BOG: PE £1,200 / J £1,400 🤷‍♂️

A few years ago I booked MAD-LGW-MLE return on IB; it was an IB flight to Gatwick and then BA to Male. It was €312.10. If I’d booked the BA leg only it would have been three times that!

This is understandable as LON-MALE is more expensive than MAD-LON-MALE due to UK taxes.

What makes less sense is if the BA LON_MALE flight was £1,000 on BA’s website and £500 on Iberia’s (same flight just different website where you buy it from).
