Baggage – Avios flight on American Airlines booked via Iberia

Hi

Looking to book an Avios flight. Domestic USA flight with American Airlines.

As expected booking through BA, checked baggage is not included.

However, booking through Iberia, the Iberia app is saying checked baggage is included. I’m wondering if this is correct or a mistake.

Is this the general understanding of the rules if booking a redemption on American via Iberia?

Has anyone got any experience of booking like this and checked baggage was actually included?

Hi the route is Washington DC to Nashville. 18th July. 13:44 flight. Economy.

Blue class. 1x hand baggage. 1 x23kg baggage in hold.

Any Avios booking I’ve ever made on BA has always included baggage including Latam which I’ve just booked. I haven’t booked on AA though.

Hi thanks for the reply however the general understanding as far as I’m aware is that baggage is not included in USA domestic bookings made with Avios. Certainly not via BA anyway.

Thus it has taken me by surprise it is saying it is included when booking via Iberia.

That’s the reason for this post. To see if anyone has any actual lived experience of booking a domestic American Airlines flight with Avios through Iberia.

Your best bet would be to book via IB and screenshot.

Be careful, AA rewards booked in Ib are NOT REFUNDABLE. If you book on BA you can cancel paying £4.4.

Don’t forget that jetblue domestic redemptions are also available on Avios via Qatar, but I’ve not found an answer to baggage allowance on an avios jet blue domestic redemption.

I would like to know which economy avios bookings drop into. Have you been able to get to the payment page on Qatar. I am looking to book MCO-SJU on Jet blue comes up 13k but then says I don’t have enough Avios, though it shows my avios balance at the top of page
