Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Bangkok Airways redemption experience anyone? [Nothing in June]

  • 70 posts

I’m trying to book 4 x returns using Avios [Via Qatar partner redemption]
They are saying they only have availability on the outbound flight, Bangkok to Samui on 26th May [economy]
And nothing for the return on the 8th June. It seems there is nothing at all for June / July / Aug.

Its 12,500 each Avios for 1 way [so not worth it as can book using £55] & 15,000 for a return so we only want to use Avios if we can get a return.

Does anyone know if maybe they just haven’t opened up June yet?

I used to book these flights in the past via Etihad Guest but we no longer have that option as we now only have Avios so don’t have experience booking through Qatar Airways re 1 way / return / changes.

    Thank you 😉

Matches my experience, they block off wholesale peak periods and redeeming internationally I never found any availability

The value was always borderline as you say so I didn’t check back nearer the time etc to see if any ever opened up later

I looked at revenue fares on the route a few days ago. There is a promotion on at the moment and you might get your dates for £100-110 rtn pp which includes 20kg checked bag plus meal. On this route/airline you’d expect to pay that a year out anyway so it’s a good deal.

    Thanx for the info.
SamG we had the same in 2019 actually but we ended up going to the other side so flights were cheap anyway.
Like you say the value isn’t there as much & I am glad flights to Samui are much cheaper than the past 20year.
Yep that was 2nd option BJ but with 400,000 Avios in the account I didn’t mind saving £440 for 50k. [thats what nearly 3 years without using them does hey] I do have plans for 300k but not till later in the year.
I’ll go ahead with a cash booking instead then.

    Thank you

Can you not cash them out on something needed at Sainsbury ir argos and use the savings? I know it hurts a bit given recent transfer devaluation but with the prospect of more avios pain on the horizon it may be an ok option.
