So the T&Cs say:
You ARE eligible if you currently or have held The Platinum Card, Preferred Rewards Gold card, Green card, Nectar card, Platinum Cashback cards, Marriott Bonvoy card, American Express Rewards Credit Card, Business Platinum or Business Gold cards.So if I get it then cancel one of the above cards (my only Amex) and keep the BAPP then sign up for the Gold card in 24 months will I still get a new sign up bonus to the Gold card?
I think you are asking the wrong question. You need to look at the T&Cs for the PRG (not the BAPP) which state:-
“This new Cardmember offer is only available if you have not held a personal American Express Card within the previous 24 months. If you have held a personal American Express Card within the previous 24 months, you will be entitled to all other Card benefits, excluding the welcome offer.”
No you won’t be eligible. The only SUB you will be eligible for if you continue to hold the BAPP card is for the Amex Platinum
My understanding is that if you have had ANY personal Amex card within the last two years you are not eligible for sign up bonuses with the exception of the BAPP card and Platinum card, which require you specifically not to have held another BA Amex (free or premium) or a Membership Rewards points enrolled card within the last two years.
So in your example, if you want the sign-up bonus on the Gold Card, you would need to cancel ALL your AMEX cards for two years. However if you want to get the Platinum Card, you could get the bonus if you don’t have a MR points card – if you currently have the BAPP card you could keep that, cancel the Gold and then in two years get the Platinum card as you would have been over two years since you had the MR enrolled card.
In summary, unless you ditch Amex altogether for two years, you can only get SUBs on BAPP or Platinum (and those would require you to cancel each one for 24 months.
