general wisdom is BAPP 241 reward tickets need to be paid for with an AMEX card – any card
My daughter – who earned a 241 from a now cancelled BAPP – just tried to book 2 tickets using my Plat Amex and got to passengers and the option to choose paying passenger not travelling is not allowed ??/
It’s not so much that you can use any Amex to pay as that BA’s system and Amex don’t do name checks – when you get to the payment page, the name of the person whose 241 it is should already be filled in so just add the card details after that.
The person making the booking needs to be the person making payment ( in thier name) apparently this is in BAs T&Cs. I recently go caught out booking a flight using my other half’s amex on line, for no other reason that i could not be bothered to get up to find my wallet and other half was sat next to me with her card.the trip didn’t get tickets and was stuck in “the back office!” Everytime I called BA, all I got from them was “card problem, give us the details again” only after the third attempt at calling did an agent explain that its not permitted to make bookings using another person’s card.
The card holder name needs to = lead passengers name. There is currently no way for the system to check this, but this is what needs to be typed in (or is auto filled when using a 241 as @northernlass points out).
Whether in reality the card holder name entered matches the name on the physical Amex being used is, currently, of no relevance.
@kiley, yes, *for a 241 booking* it’s in BA’s Ts and Cs, but this has never been enforced thus far, though of course they could decide to do so at any time. This is well-known and documented widely here! I’m not sure that you were making a 241 booking though, as you simply wouldn’t have been able to enter your partner’s name? If not, then BA were talking rubbish as you absolutely can pay for any other type of booking with someone else’s card (with their name in the relevant field).

Agree BA do talk rubbish, occassionaly, some agents do know what thier doing.
It wasn’t a 241 booking (reward flight saver booked by me for my parents using my other halfs card) and it gave me a right headache. When booking with the partners card, payment would be accepted, but once the back office “did thier ticketing checks” it bounced for not matching myself. However when I called ba they just kept telling me “card issue” and I would repeat the process. Only after the third call did the agent explain that I was using my partners card and she (and me) were not travlling and this is not allowed and could result in the ticket being cancelled at anytime in the future.
I did think this was rubbish as I’m sure I’ve used her card before (to give her the points) but on this occasion it was annoying. In future, I will book flights with my card if I make a booking.
There’s even a box to tick if the person paying isn’t travelling! If BA had been right, it would mean you could never book a flight for your children or anyone else if you weren’t accompanying them, which is clearly nonsense.

I know, just dosnt make sense, maybe because I booked on the phone ( which I mosly do) using partners card. It was accepted by agent but it got flagged by back office,
Thinking further, maybe it makes more sense for vendors not to accept card payments from a card that isn’t in the person’s name who is speaking.
The option to change name of card holder was greyed out so I just proceeded with the correct cardholders address and it all went through OK Tickets issued
