Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Barclays upgrade voucher no availability

  • 24 posts

My Barclays upgrade voucher from the premier account posted yesterday. I’ve searched the same routes with reward availability with the new post September BA AMEX 241 voucher, none of them are available on the Barclays upgrade voucher. Is anyone else seeing the same?

That sounds like the extra availability (I class?) promised by Amex as part of the 2 for 1 improvements is indeed true. You seemed surprised?

It just occurred to me that if you were a family of 3 hoping to rely on using one amex voucher and one barclays one. The difference in availability could get frustrating.

We’ve done a few trips with 2 of us on a BAPP 241 and the 3rd on the Lloyds upgrade voucher. You need to be very flexible so we always tailored our trip around destinations we knew would have 3 CW seats available – e.g. a few years ago we flew to IAD, had an amazing week exploring the area then flew to GCM for a 10- day beach break then back from BOS.

The last Lloyds voucher is taking us to PRG at Easter – probably not the best use of it but it suits our plans for 4 day break and will give us a couple of hours in the Cathay lounge, with EJ direct back to MAN for the return.

Actually I searched again. The same routes are available with the Barclays voucher if I depart from London but not from Edinburgh. Does that mean the upgrade voucher is not valid to start from regional airports or do you have to phone BA to book?

Have you checked that there is availability EDI-LHR? You could include regional connections with the Lloyds voucher so I assumed it would be the same. I think you had to call avios.com to do it – it’s going to be a right PITA if you have to call BA to do this!

Here is what I think could be going on…

You are selecting your travel class as premium economy.

Domestic sectors do not have premium economy.

Keep us in the loop about this. Virtually no-one has actually used one yet. Would be a bit of a pain if a domestic connection required a call.

I have no problem booking a domestic to Europe connection.
(Select economy and upgrade to Club Europe)

But the BA IT will not let me have a domestic to Club World connection.

I thought of this as well. Selected economy and the route is still not available when selecting EDI-BJS OR Hongkong using the upgrade voucher. But the same routes available using London as starting airport. EDI to LON route is available with 241 voucher.

Just to update you guys. No one at BA seem to know why you cannot book regional connections within the UK directly online.

However, the agents are able to book EDI-LON-PKX return though their system did not like it and it had to be passed through their back office in order to workout the tax. The tax also came up higher than LON-PKX return, I forgot what they quoted me, around 680 compared with 580ish.

Would be interesting to hear from other people who have used the Barclays upgrade voucher. I didn’t actually go through with the booking in the end as I don’t think China will open up by then.

The tax will be higher because you have to pay the RFS fee on the domestic leg (but no avios). As I suspected, this is going to be a real pain, especially with RFS options only being the maximum number of avios plus £1 which I think is poor value. This may well be our one and only BC voucher unless the IT gets sorted and it’s probably at the very back of the queue of IT things that BA needs to get sorted (despite the recent “upgrade”!)
