Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Barclaycard Upgrade Voucher – amendments

  • 3 posts

I have an upgrade voucher that I want to use for a return to Australia. The reward flights are issued 355 days before the flight and usually sell out within 10 days. Which means for a three week trip, by the time the return flight is available, the outbound will not be available. To get around this problem I am thinking of booking a two day return flight, say 353 days before travel and then amending the return leg 20 days later when the return I actually want becomes available. I know there will be a £35 hit for a change fee. Does anyone know if this is possible with the upgrade voucher, or even better – anyone actually successfully done this ?

Avios seats to SYD usually get snapped up as soon as they’re released so you need to be online or on the phone at exactly midnight or 1 am (depending on when you’re planning to book) at T-355 if you want a chance for your outbound leg, and the same again as soon as the inbound is released. Is it just you travelling? BA will add the inbound leg to a Barclays voucher booking as long as you get an agent who knows what they’re doing.

Have a look at the threads on booking at T-355 and on the Barclays voucher for more tips.

Many thanks. I will be solo. I have read other threads and there seems to be a mix of experiences. BA have told me (via chat) that it would be possible to use the strategy I first proposed but that change of the inbound would need a call (rather than a system change) and would also need a change fee. The midnight challenge will not be relevant as I will be in Australia on another trip so first thing in the morning but of course the outbound will be at least 24 hours on the system before I can book a return

Have you actually done this successfully. Can’t find anyone who has
