Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Barclays upgrade voucher query

  • 54 posts

I’m trying to book a long haul flight for two using a single Barclays upgrade voucher. I get an error message saying that I don’t have enough upgrade vouchers for the number of people.

There’s Avios availability for two and I’m ok if I try booking for one person.

Am I correct in assuming that my choices are to make two separate bookings, or to phone up? Or am I just doing something stupid?

I’m guessing others have dealt with this and I was wondering the best approach?

Are you try to book a return flight for 2 people using one voucher?

The only way you can use the voucher for 2 people is by booking the outbound leg (from the UK) on its own.

Which is the best thing to do here. If you want to do one full Avios and one upgraded, you’re just as well off using the voucher for two on the outbound and then a full Avios redemption on the way back.

Does this mean that it isn’t possible for two people to fly inbound in (upgraded) Club World using a voucher? The use case being to fly outbound to the US daytime in WT+, but back in CW at WT+ avios rates.

With one voucher you can either use it for one passenger return trip from the UK or two passengers outbound from UK. It can’t be used of a journey starting outside the UK.

That is an unfortunate inconsistency (it’s valid inbound on a round trip booking when used in a single person ‘configuration’, but not in a two person ‘configuration’. And two vouchers can be used to upgrade both legs for two people)

    Thanks all for the clarifications.

You can’t use 2 vouchers on one booking, though (well not online anyway), you need to make 2 separate return bookings. These would also need to start in the UK, so it’s not really an inconsistency as it does still fall within the voucher Ts and Cs.
