Best airline to book with to maximise avios

I’ve got a few trips coming up and I want to maximise the avios earned. Which airline would be best to book with (given they are all the same price).

I think BA/American/Iberia are all points based on spend, whereas the others are on miles?

I’ve got 1 long haul to Central America, via the states. One to the far east (via Qatar), one to Africa (via Qatar) – All of these are in the next 3 months.

I’ll get the same tier points regardless and I am already requalified for Gold. I am just looking to maximise the Avios earned.

If it’s possible to book any of these as BA holidays – only needs one nights hotel for it to qualify – then avios would be awarded on the old distance chart rather than the spend basis

Interesting point and potentially double tier points. My renewal is July, so anything from April would be recredited to me. We book via travel, so might need to ask them – worth checking!!

If you need help from the community answering that, you’ll need to tell us the cabin class, your status, and the amount you’re paying for the tickets, who you’ve booked with, and which airline you are actually flying.

Note that American, Cathay etc don’t use Avios. If you are interested in another oneworld currency that further complicates things!

Price: varies, but around £4,500 for each trip

Not yet booked with anyone. So I’m asking under which airline would be optimal to book with, but credit to BA. i.e. BA metal, but booked as an AA flight, credited to my BA account.
