Have been given a bill by HMRC recently and need to pay 2-3K to them.
What is the best way for doing this currently whilst maximising rewards, yet keeping costs/fees low?
I have Curve backed by Barclays and also have Bluechain (although I haven’t used my account yet).
Not sure if at all useful but previously Yonder awarded points on HMRC transactions. This week that stopped!
The likes of Bluehcain and similar offerings: rewards won’t be worth the fee – only exception is if that’s the 2-3k of spend that means you get over the line on a significant bonus of some sort.

So why not upgrade Curve, do Fronted, downgrade within the month.

Yep thought that might be the case.
I haven’t used Bluechain yet. Although a few test payments that I tried to put through resulted in what I think are a few bugs. When inputting payment details and amounts, as soon as one moves away from that input field, the system doubles the numeric value (payment amount). I really don’t think this is expected functionality, so I would approach with caution.

Thanks for this – I think it’s my best option going forward and I was also thinking about the monthly plan.
Yep…curve for £9.99 for a month but time it over 2 calendar months (mid month to mid month)… Draw £500 cash from an ATM each month (I do Curve to Barclays Avios card) and £1k fronted to HMRC.
Repeat the following half month… 3k spend towards spend target and 3k Avios for 9.99…. cancel before it auto renews.
If timed well, including my current USA holiday, I earn 1% cashback and earn miles too at the same time.
OK, so looks like Curve is the best option here. I still haven’t got the HMRC bill from the taxman, but I’ll likely use Curve on the 9.99 plan and will make sure I’m paying it monthly. No point in getting it on the annual plan if you can cancel from one month to the next.
I do have some legacy cashback left on my Curve card, but it’s £0.98 so I can’t even use it as it’s less than £1! So any additional cashback would be great.
I wasn’t aware of a minimum spend for Curve cash. Have you tried to spend it?
I’m fairly sure I’ve had a sub £1 curve cash spend.

I suppose then I’ve not gone to pay with a card for anything <£1.
The Tesco Clubcard Pay+ Visa debit worked for me last time, although the earn rate is pretty poor…

They’re not taking new applications right now, which is just as well. Keen on trying out Curve with fronted once I get my HMRC bill
