Forums Other Destination advice Best JFK overnight hotel

    Hi,

Going to arrive at JFK at 22:30 (BA T3) and have a flight leaving at 08:00 (Mint at T5).

Other than the TWA hotel at T5 (expensive) and the Holiday Inn Jamaica on the AirTrain line, does anyone have any recommendations, please?

Hate getting up early, but then will be jet lagged!

That’s a lousy layover as you won’t be in the hotel until midnight and you’ll be out the door at 6am.

Also I assume you meant to put T8 for your BA arrival, not T3.

Not sure I’d want to walk around Jamaica at those times – the HIEX isn’t just across the street from the station – and you’ll have the airtrain cost to factor in as well. I’d be looking for the hotel with the best shuttle service.

I stayed at the Hilton JFK. Not going to win any awards but the shuttles seemed well run.

Not walking around Glasgow at midnight, let alone NYC!

Decided on the TWA hotel and the 6pm flight. And after I failed to click on the new flight at $260, an hour later the price had fallen to $180 each!

Now off to read the HfP review of the TWA hotel and see what deals I can get.

And look to spend y Amex Plat £150 on lunch in NYC. Should get a nice bowl of soup!

I’ve stayed at a few around there, like the Farifeild and couldn’t recommend any except the TWA hotel. We paid a little extra for a runway view room and it was absolutely worth it if you are an aviation geek. The nickel and diming mentioned in the HfP review was reduced (though we had to ring reception for one or two things – like a second robe – they were all free) We spent hours wandering around, enjoying the exhibits, snapping pics, taking advantage of the pool (free at this time of year) the Connie cocktail lounge. It’s an experience – and no need for a shuttle bus to a hotel in (what feels like) a dodgy part of town

From memory for all the hotel shuttles you have to take the airtrain and then get a shuttle from there which is a pain especially at that time of night.

If you can get TWA for 180 it sounds worth it with the prices these days.

I think he was referring to a flight for 180, not the hotel, by taking the 6pm not the 8pm LHR-JFK maybe?

When we stayed at the Hilton JFK (April ’22) the bus dropped us at the terminal and that was about 8am/9am so hardly “off peak”. Whether you have to go to Federal Circle for the pick up though I’m not sure (we got an uber out from Manhattan)

Deffo sensible to stay at the TWA Hotel if you can make it work.
