Hey fellow hfp members. Can you guys please tell me about the best time to visit Mexico City?

Mexico City itself has a great climate as the altitude keeps it relatively cooler and less humid, even in the summer. NB. the altitude and pollution can make it tricky for anyone with respiratory issues. Personally, I think the winter (Nov-Feb/Mar) is the best time to visit as although locals think it’s cold and are wearing coats, you can expect low 20s and blue skies although it can get a bit chilly in the evenings. This is ideal for walking around, sightseeing and eating outdoors in my book. The winter is also the best time to visit resorts, particularly on the Pacific coast because the summer has much higher higher (excessive!) temperatures, rainfall/humidity and accompanying mosquitoes.

I am kind of confused about the timing. One website says it’s March to May is the best time for sunseekers and September to November is the best time to experience Mexican culture and on other hand other website says its High Season: December to May Low Seasons: May to June & September to November specially in September it rains a lot. I don’t want to miss out on anything on my Mexico Travel.

Are you staying in Mexico City for the duration?

Do you want to do add a sun/beach style leg?

    How long is the trip?

Are you keen to experience Day of the Dead?

Mexico is a big country with a highly varied climate – the advice by @JDB is good for Mexico City. If you look for Cancun, Cabo Wabo or other places you’ll get different timings / seasons.

The winter months are also the nicest times for both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts as well as sightseeing around the Yucatán peninsula. In these months it’s cooler, late 20’s, much less humid and very few mosquitoes, but shorter days. It’s only really in more recent years that Caribbean islands and Cancún have become much more year round destinations. It depends what you like, but for us the summer weather is quite oppressive with temperatures in mid 30s and humidity over 80%, storms etc. plus mosquitoes. You won’t find too many Mexicans there in the summer months.

It would be good to witness day of the dead. I am more on exploring cultural side. And I will be staying there for a month.

The timing of Día de los Muertos in late October/early November is ideal for the start of a cultural visit. The Anthropological Museum is a great place to gain an overview of the rather complicated cultural history but it is vast, with a lot to see, so allow plenty of time. In addition to the more obvious things, I think the Chapultepec castle and the Anahuacalli Museum (Diego Rivera’s collection of ancient artefacts) are both rather underrated. For more contemporary culture, the San Antonio market at the weekend is very impressive.

@davidflies that’s perfect time for Mexico city, weatherwise, I look up the previous years historic weather data for the trip dates and that gives a reasonable idea of what to expect. Around Day of Dead hotel prices will spike and availability might come into play.

If you do plan to fly around, try and avoid Viva Aerobus, unreliable and poor service.

    A Mexican friend recommends Merida.

Oh there are are some great architecture tours, city wide but also for specific buildings. The city is rich in architectural gems.
