I have an Intercontinental stay coming up in a few weeks (on points). I’m thinking about signing up for Ambassador (currently Diamond Elite). Is it generally better to do it in advance, or wait until check-in and ask if they have any offers/deals for signing up on the spot? Anyone got any experiences or advice either way? Thanks.
I signed up at the desk a few weeks ago. I got a fantastic upgrade. I can’t see a reason to sign up in advance unless you are likely to be in a hurry when you check in, or are paying with points.
Thanks @memesweeper, good to know! 🙂
Out of interest, do you (or anyone else) know whether, if you sign up at check-in and pay $200 rather than 40k points, would that count towards hotel incidental spend? (I’m thinking about that 20,000 points for signing up and doing two nights offer – my stay is two nights on points; I think I’d need to spend $60 on incidentals for them to qualify?)

Mine did. No promises it will for you!
