Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Best ways to use Virgin Points – flights vs packages?

  • 4 posts

    Hi all,
I’m new to using Virgin Atlantic Flying Club reward points and would love some advice from people who’ve made the most of them.
    1. What are the best ways to maximise the value of Virgin Points, especially for long-haul travel?
    2. Are there specific destinations where the points stretch further or offer the best value (e.g., Caribbean, US, Asia)?
    3. What’s the best method or tool to search for reward flight availability—especially for Premium or Upper Class?
    4. Are there any tips or tricks for spotting “saver” reward seats before they’re gone?

Also, is it generally better value to use points just for flights alone, or does Virgin offer decent all-inclusive holiday packages that can also be booked with points?

Appreciate any tips, experiences, or strategies! Thanks in advance.

This recent article answers some of your questions…

    However some key points:

The focus on here is more premium/upper redemptions. If you are content with economy, there’s obviously more options.

The carribean is not typically a destination with good value redemptions. Very pricey as you can see in the articles.

Eastern routes are typically cheap, as per the article.

There’s also a few US options with lower prices right now.

Use points for flights alone. Using for virgin holidays does not offer good value.

You’re sadly a bit late to the Virgin bargain party but have a trawl through the VS articles and threads on here for starters. One reader has also developed a useful tool for finding award seats.

Your personal circumstances will have a huge impact on how much value you’ll get from your points now. If you’re single or in a couple, flexible with travel dates, there are still bargains to be had, if you have kids and want to go to Orlando at Easter, it’ll be much more difficult.

Single and flexible with dates. I’ll have a look through. Thanks a lot!

This has details of the award seat finder tool, it seems to have been received very well here.
