Hi,
Does anyone know the best way or even if its possible to book a business class flights on JAL without having to go through BA?
I’ve read online that booking flights from Bangkok to Tokyo are 25k points beach way if you book on JAL, but are showing as 45k on BA. Is this correct? If so, how can I get these flights for this?
Thanks in advance for any advice given.
To book via JAL you’d need JAL points.
And no you can’t move avios across.
Though have you tried booking via IB,AY or QR?

Just as a note would recommend not too book via IB as partner rewards are non-refundable/non-cancellable unlike using BA/QR/AY.
I think it’s 46,500 Avios via BA as I’ve just booked the same route in the other direction!
What I would say is you shouldn’t work on the basis that 1 JAL mile is worth the same as 1 BA mile for a whole bunch of reasons. And a revenue fare on that route is >£1k so 46,500 avios and under £100 in fees still gets you close on 2p per avios of value.
I have a related question: we’re aiming to travel to Japan during the 2027 Easter break and while I’m prepared to pay cash, I would like to at least have a go at securing JAL reward flights with Avios. I gather JAL reward flights are released 360 days ahead but won’t appear on BA site until 355 days. Can anyone advise what, if any, options we have to secure at 360 days? All our Avios are currently with BA, so need to take into account whether we can transfer to another airline (and also return to BA if we are unsuccessful!) TIA.

I have not tried this, so what follows his pure speculation, but call the BA call Centre after flights go on sale because they can book Iberia at 360 days out, so perhaps the same applies to JAL?
I missed this reply, but thank you. I will test a bit nearer to the time.
All my JAL flights except one were booked via Alaska MP but there have been devaluations since. Key was crediting to Alaska at 300% and topping up by buying in sales.
@BJ I missed the 300% bit until I look deeper into it. Currently Hainan airline got some good value to Asia and it is 300% based on wheretocredit. I’ve also got multiple AC flights later this summer too so will try to make the most out of it but as you mentioned it is a good heft 60-75k now for long haul redemption but on a brighter side, it is still low tax.
Ok, the selfish part of me trying to hold me back from posting but here goes. I’ve had so much useful info from forums that it is only fair to share. I’ve read many forums and not seen this information but may have missed it.
Finnair allow you to search for partner flights 360 days in advance. So if you search today (11/5/25) you can select 6/5/26 as the search date. Now the interesting part, the search results show a 7 day availability window centred on the date you entered. If you run the search after midnight? Japan time you can see availability for the next day. I have just done a test search and could select JL48 HEL to HND on 7/5/26 in business
One thing to be aware of is that refunds of fees minus admin charge and Avios from Finnair takes ages. Currently made worse because of the strikes but I am still waiting for a refund from a cancellation made first week of April. Also the cancellation charge is more than BA. But this approach made it so much easier than trying to use BA for a trip this year. BA very rarely had any availability for JAL whereas I had no issue via Finnair.
I should add that transfer of Avios both BA to Finnair and visa versa is pretty much immediate. It’s only the refund for cancelled flights that takes Finnair ages to process
@bowenm187 thanks for sharing. very useful to know. I’ve never booked through AY yet as tax is higher than BA on the same flight somehow. But how much is the cancellation fees from AY?
