Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Booking ITA Airways with Virgin Points?

  • 76 posts

I just wanted to check if anyone on here has been able to use their Virgin points on ITA Airways? I see on the the Virgin site that you need to call to book, which is a hassle. (And yes, I know they’ve been bought by Lufthansa so likely to leave SkyTeam in the near future, which is why I’d like to book now…) So just curious if anyone has had any experiences?

Isn’t ITA one of two (along with China Eastern) which isn’t available until later in the year?

Have LH bought ITA? I thought they acquired a 41% stake. It is possible that they will leave SkyTeam, but I don’t think that’s a definite at this point, because that isn’t a controlling stake (although there will be pressure). We might see a pseudo-VS situation, where LH codeshares on to ITA, but allows it to remain outside of *A.

The VS website provides a table of the number of points you’d need. I’d call up and see…

Just to report back as a possible data point: I finally called customer services yesterday. The agent could see the ITA flight I wanted but they can’t see availability. They need to request it and apparently none was available for the flight I wanted. So ITA is theoretically bookable but I don’t know whether also in practice.
