Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Booking one leg with companion voucher – Avios/Cash mix?

Hi guys, there’s some cw availability for CPT-LND and was wanting to reserve that leg and then wait for an outbound premium. How does one do the cash avios/cash mix equation on just one leg?

I was going to do 84k avios with £1,980, this was the price for premium out and cw back for 2(the 2 premium disappeared unfortunately). Now when looking at just one leg on cw it’s giving me: You can select when paying 100000 Avios + £475
    84000 Avios + £ 705.00 75000 Avios + £ 875.00 58000 Avios + £ 1,325.00 42000 Avios + £ 1,725.00 30000 Avios + £ 2,025.00

If I chose the 100k avios would this disadvantage me when it comes time to add the premium leg in? I only have 100k avios so not sure if using it all on this is best or if it would end up re balancing when doing the other leg later?

    Thanks

Apologies if I’m missing something, but if you use all your avios to book one leg, how are you going to pay for the other one?

If the PE seats on your outbound leg have gone, it’s unlikely that any more will be released, if this is what you’re hoping for.

If your intention is to book the trip on one PNR, BA usually insists on both legs using the same ratio of avios to cash.

If there is availability in economy on your outbound, your best bet may be to book this plus the CW seats inbound and see if more PE does open up, as long as you have enough avios to cover the difference. Otherwise you might find yourself stuck with a one-way journey and having to spend a lot of cash to get to CPT.

That’s what I wasn’t sure of, how booking the second leg worked if all avios used up. Wasn’t sure if they rebalanced the total cost when making that booking.

I’ve found that new availability often happens over the coming months for Lon-Cpt leg. Not sure how it works as people often say they sell out 355 days in advanced for CW but from past few years of seatspy and planning I’d regularly see more premium and CW pop up as we got closer to December.

Fortunately some more PE seats came available today for a day earlier which is even better, and the CW seats were still available. Granted they were 24th flights but the 6 last night were still sitting there this morning, the CW one’s that is.

Also realised there is a good deal on atm for purchasing avios so it worked out better to purchase a bunch of avios than use more cash on the redemption.
