I’m sorry if this has been answered but after searching the forum, I could only find flight & hotel suggestions I thought I’d ask the question here.
I need 40 more points to get to Silver from
bronze. Current year end is 8th October so that means I need to get a flight that will
give me 40 tier points within the next few days. I would like to know the cheapest route (preferably same day trip) to get the 40 points. I’ve looked into Edinburgh and Glasgow and all seem to cost over £500.
Thanks all for your help.
Thabks.

If you only need 40 points then why not do a CE to Edinburgh and get the train back for £35 quid.
Presuming you are based in London, you don’t say.
BA domestics are so expensive atm it’s cheaper to fly to some international destinations. Have you looked at Paris? I imagine the flight time from LON is similar to EDI and easily doable in a day.
Have you looked at the low fare finder on ba.com? It will show you at a glance which are the cheapest routes on your travel dates. I’m doing MAN-LHR tomorrow with the same aim but to book it now would be around £500, as you say.
You definitely want to do economy one way and business the other which would be 45 tier points.
Jersey and Dublin spring to mind as being likely candidates.
Undoubtedly the cheapest way to do it would be to book an economy return flight. Then seek to upgrade to business on one of the legs for cash at check in as per:
It’s probably a bit of a gamble but a modest one.
Failing that you can pay £236 for this to guarantee it if you’re free tomorrow.

Thanks all. Looks like the best option is the Jersey or Dublin option. I could also do Glasgow though more expensive but it allows me to “work from home”. I wonder if Jersey will count as working abroad?
Thanks all.
If I decide to go Jersey, anyone have an idea how to pass the time? Can to Economy outbound and Business inbound
The fare I showed was economy outbound and business inbound so yes.
Just price up a return on BA and select what you want.
Depending how long you are there for, you could:
– get lashed in the BA lounge
– go to the garden centre that is within walking distance of the airport (St Peter’s)
– two mile walk to St Brelade and admire how nice the Waitrose is
– taxi/bus to St Helier and have a wander and then visit Elizabeth Castle
– I’ve not been to the war tunnels but have heard good things.
– rent a car and see how many miles you can cover
Are you off tomorrow?
Thanks @Froggee.
I decided to do a return to Glasgow for tomorrow. I purchased Economy 6:55 from LCY with upgrade to Business with Avios (£352 + 11,500 Avios). Will I get the business points or Economy points?
You should only get the economy points, but sometimes BA’s IT doesn’t realise this …
Oh my mistake then. I thought I’ll get 20 TP each way but seems it’s just 10TP each …
Go to manage my booking it should tell you tier points & miles you will receive. I think it will be business points I have always got the upgraded tier points & miles when upgraded with avios. Good luck
You can filter for one world flights only on Google flights.
Maybe try one ways and return with avios?
Thanks all. I eventually had to reschedule the return leg for another day and purchased a cash ticket in Business from Glasgow to LCY. I would have been gutted to find out I did all this on an Avios upgrade and then miss out by 20 points.
Next time I just need to plan better and go on a points run to Europe way ahead of time.
