Planning to buy a car using Amex at Cazoo. The price is a few K over my Amex credit limit. Cazoo doesn’t allow card plus bank transfer, the full amount has to be paid in full online. Does anyone know if credit balance on Amex would increase credit limit? If so, will check with Amex customer service if it’s okay to do it.
Why don’t you ask Amex for a temporary limit increase? Pay off the amount in the next few days, and you’ll be fine.

Thanks Rob, that’s why I checked Cazoo in the first place. I asked if I can partial pay by card and bank transfer the rest. The answer is no, one full payment online.
Amex live chat doesn’t know temporary limit increase, will try their call center.Also looking between Carzoo and Cinch (who do allow multi card payments)
However, not sure if the credit limit rise is instant and even if it was, looking to keep a stable credit scoreThe temp limit increase is only for a few days to allow you to charge the card and then pay it off. So not sure it would even really impact your credit score.
The credit score is a mostly irrelevant metric that is used by the companies creating (and, importantly, selling) them and not much anyone else. But even if it wasn’t, this doesn’t seem to be the sort of thing that would affect it much.

What’s the shortfall between your limit and the amount you want to charge? You could always request the limit increase. Also, if you have other Amex credit cards, you can request a redistribution of the overall credit limit (transfer some of the allowance from one card to another). I’ve done it and it’s instantaneous after Amex agent runs checks etc.
6K shortfall. Requested 6K limit increase online and expected a rejection; but was approved instantly without credit search. I’m pleasantly shocked. Thanks Amex!

After completing the checkout procedure, I would say it’s impossible to split payment online (the Amex cashback T&Cs specifies online transaction). At the final checkout, there are two payment options: either by card or by bank transfer (via online banking). Either option requires full payment.

@Carlos, have you tried to request limit increase online? Alternatively, speak to Amex Credit Control team (01273576062) if it’s only £200 short.
