Forums Payment cards American Express Can I refer spouse for Platinum when we both have BAPP?

  • 63 posts

My wife hasn’t held an MR-awarding card for over two years, so I understand she’s eligible for the generous sign-up bonus on the Platinum Card.

I have a BAPP. I’d like her to use my referral link to sign up for the Platinum, to boost her SUB to 80k, and earn 12,000 Avios for myself.

Can I do this, even though she already has a BAPP?

And, if so, should she log in to her account when she applies via the link I send, or is it best if she doesn’t?

    Any advice gratefully received.

Yes this works, makes no difference if she logs in or not.

Best to avoid logging in, to reduce the risk of referral getting lost.

Just to jump on this thread, i have an AMEX Platinum and my wife as a supp card holder.

Could i refer my wife for a Platinum card outright add myself as a supp card holder and then i believe i could cancel my orginal platinum card and still get a pro-rata refund?

Don’t add yourself as Supp at application stage. Add after card is approved via this link to get an extra 5k points
