Discuss today's stories:
PROBLEM: I’m trying to prevent several family members from having their Avios expire in early June. They can’t all earn Avios easily (via online shopping, credit cards etc).
QUESTION: IF they each link their new Qatar Airways accounts (which now contain Avios just for registering) with their BA account and send the Qatar Avios across to BA, would that count as ‘earning Avios’ activity which would prevent their BA Avios from expiring?
Instead of Qatar… just sign them up for AviosForThoughts and get the initial survey bonus points. Pretty much an instant way way to keep Avios alive.
You’ve left it very late if they expire in June.
Are QR still offering the bonus for opening an account? I thought that was a limited time offer. Plus if involves a lot of faff opening an account, then linking them and moving the points etc. And people have had issues with names not matching on BA and QR which prevents them linking.
Quickest way would be to buy 1k miles for each account to reset the clock.
Anything else relies on a virtually instant posting happening and thst isn’t always the case.
Alternatively they should redeem the avios for flights and then cancel under BWC and that also resets the clock.
