Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Cancel an Avios flight – now or later?

I have a Avios flight London -> Doha -> Colombo booked with BA on Qatar in January 2023 which I want to cancel.

Given that all cancellations have to go through the call centre, I wonder wether there is any benefit of doing it now compared to later (hoping that the MMB option for cancellation comes back in October)?

What would you like us to tell you? You save on the cashflow ie cancellation fee, by delaying. You get to use the points elsewhere by cancelling. You might get cancelled by BA later on so might be better off waiting for compensation. But you might forget & lose everything. You might pick up a cheap mobile deal so the long call ends up cheaper. You might use MMB to cancel later when/ if it comes back, saving you time & money. You might die of stress thinking it over too much. You might get to enjoy thinking over your options 50 times a day. It could be seen as operational therapy for a diseased mind that can’t be decisive.

FFS just decide for yourself & take action. Or not.

Slightly harsh response but true words and I can’t stop laughing!

@jek – I’ve always had problems changing/cancelling flights online which involved a connection or a partner airline so you may have to call to cancel regardless (though Twitter or Chat may also be options). The only benefit of doing it sooner is freeing up the avios/cash, as billy says!

I think billy is one of our old HFP amigos who likes to take his online handles from popular culture! I think he may also have been at large over the weekend …

@billy ten you may express it quite strongly, but your home truths need to be said. I can’t believe some of the helplessness/incompetence we read here from apparently intelligent people. Also, my wife tells me that being indecisive, lacking ‘savoir faire’ and dithering are all seriously unsexy and a red flag in blokes.
