Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Cancelling BA Y Class Flight for Full Refund if Avios also used?

Looking for some guidance please. A few months ago I booked an expensive one-way Y class fully flexible economy plus half-term flight that I am now looking to cancel as fortunately a reward seat recently became available for an earlier flight on the same day which I have booked with avios. I have been carefully checking the fare conditions of the cash ticket to make sure that my flight is eligible for a full refund before I cancel it as it was $771 USD, so not an insignificant sum (in contrast, my reward booking in CE was a much more palatable 18,350 avios plus £37!)

I do find it frustrating that on my booking confirmation email from BA there is no reference to cancellation/refund conditions, especially as with BA you have to apply for the refund and accept the terms of it without prior confirmation of the sum to be refunded. I have looked on MMB and under the “Cancelling your booking” section it reads:

“If you cancel a refund is permitted, subject to recalculation of the fare for any journey flown. Following a change, any previous non-refundable fare amounts remains non-refundable. There are no cancellation fees. View your cancellation options for this booking”.

Forgive me if I’m stating the obvious (currently jetlagged!), but presumably this means my flight is fully refundable? I wanted to double check this as when I booked I used 500 avios to reduce the cash cost by £5 and wasn’t sure if there were any Ts and Cs around this that would void the eligibility for a refund. If it is still fully refundable, will I also get the 500 avios refunded? I have a screenshot of the fare conditions from when I booked stating the same as the above quoted paragraph from MMB. I suppose the only way to be certain of the fare conditions is for me to call BA and check before I proceed with the cancellation, but any advice would be much appreciated.

If its any help, I’ve cancelled fully flexible flights with BA which I paid in part using small amounts of Avios and got both components fully refunded.

Get your e-ticket receipt from Finnair’s website

    https://www.finnair.com/gb-en/customer-care-and-contact-information/contact-and-request-forms/order-your-e-ticket-receipt

It will give you a breakdown of the fare paid and show what fare class you’ve bought. That will also list any restrictions or endorsements and it should be clear if the fare is refundable for cash.
