Closed my Credit card but have a refund on it. Anyone have any experience of this (call center are asking me to send them various private documents which I do not want to do)?
I have already sent them a letter requesting the refund.
Normally they just need a copy of a recent statement relating to the bank account you want the money paid back into. Don’t you have a blank(ish) page or similar? I appreciate you’re giving them “your bank details” but they need that to refund you anyways and they don’t give a monkeys about your balance or lack of.
You can just print out the details of your name, address and account number of your bank statement and that will satisfy them. Even if you have to cut off the transaction sections.
They have no need to see you spent £4.55 at Greggs or whatever.
But what usually happens is their system will see they have money trying to credit to a closed account and then they contact you to ask how to get the money to you without any sort of palaver especially if the account you want crediting was used to pay the bill so it will be known to them.
Have done it quite a few times. As @Roberto mentioned, you would get a statement in post showing credit in your account. Just need to call on the number given in the statement to request a refund in your bank account. Pretty straightforward.
1 thing to note though, your account is opened temporarily to facilitate the refund, and would be closed again after it’s refunded. This would be your new credit card closure date in case you decide to apply again for the card for a new SUB.
Closed my VS card last year. Had a large refund of over £10k hit it after the last monthly statement and points sweep.
Rang them up and they wanted me to send in bank statements for the account it was going to via snail mail to get it back.
If it’s a few quid they will probably just do it over the phone.

Was that £10k+ refund intentional?

Even if it was the process wouldn’t change.
The refund would still be required to be processed back to the cardholder.
Requesting bank statements is just a regular AML check. Many banks will do this for high value payouts.
