Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Charged £70 fee for booking open jaw return companion voucher

  • 5 posts

I booked a reward flight with the BA companion voucher to Las Vegas online around 6 months ago, a couple of months ago we called to book an open jaw return from San Jose, California. After looking online it seemed the return hadn’t been ticketed, we got the new confirmation and it was showing up under the booking reference but it said our baggage allowance was different and that we couldn’t book seats.

We have just called to get the ticket sorted, they apologised that it wasn’t done already but then stated that they needed to charge £35 per person to change the booking (on top of the £300 odd extra tax) as we didn’t book the return online. I explained that it’s not physically possible to book the return online but she said there was nothing they could do despite the fact that this wasn’t mentioned to us 2 months ago when we tried to book it and they haven’t issued the ticket.

Is this the norm? I know you might have to pay £15 to book over the phone but we didn’t actually change our flight out so I don’t see how it’s a booking change.

    Thanks so much!

No, you shouldn’t be charged the phone fee for something that can’t be done online. Either the agent made a mistake or this is another example of BA trying to recoup covid losses at our expense.

This is the award flight change fee, not the phone fee. Neither should be charged for adding open jaw so OP should request the £70 be refunded.
