Where has the virgin 70% bonus article gone? An embargo issue?

https://www.headforpoints.com/2025/09/05/70-bonus-buying-virgin-points-4/ appeared in my RSS feed but the cupboard was bare.

Sorry about that. Launch is now Monday, not today.

Good morning from Weegie Land. I can confirm that cheap overcooked breakfast buffet Haggis in Scottish business hotels is just as bad as the wet undercooked bacon found everywhere.

If anyone has suggestions for a decent restaurant for sad lonely business trip style solo dining, vaguely near George Square then I’m all ears.

Can’t help you with Glasgow restaurants, but wanted to pass on my thanks for York restaurants that you recommended on the Radisson reviews thread – just had a few days there and ate at The Whippet Inn, Rustique and El Gaucho. Excellent food, wine selection and service at all 3.

Can I use the EU passport lane, with my UK passport, when travelling to the EU with my partner and child, who both hold EU passports? Is this any different if just travelling with my partner? Is there an EU Directive that you point me towards?

I am sure you are all fretting about me.

So yesterday’s Bermuda flight briefly became 11:20 today then 12:30 then settled at 12:20, was then delayed until 13:10 then they didn’t know how long it was going to be delayed for but definitely not 13:10 and now they are teasing us by presenting a real life crewed plane at gate 36 with promises of 14:00. Today’s Bermuda flight leaves at 14:35 so it is going to be a race!

There are a whole lot of folks on my flight who are travelling for Bermuda vs Jamaica which kicks off at 7pm in Bermuda so they are probably a bit stuffed. They have a chance but need to get rid of their luggage before going to the stadium.

Meanwhile some poor fellow misunderstood the pilot when he said that the same plane would take us today so they will keep our bags on the plane and he… left all his personal possessions in the cabin.

I hope he at least bought some deodorant.

@froggee you must be the first person to have entered the Bermuda triangle before leaving the UK

    @RV
    – was that a targeted offer you received? And presumably for the WE card rather than just the premier one. 60k is not to be sniffed at for a relatively small spend target

Yes it’s for the WE card – should have clarified that!

    Not a targeted offer: https://www.hsbc.co.uk/credit-cards/products/premier-world-elite/

Had a couple flights in J on Qatar yesterday, and noticed a couple differences. They didn’t come round to do the personal “thanks for flying with us”, and also no longer seem to do to Laderach box of chocolates for each person, instead offering you to select one chocolate from a larger box. Was this just us, or have others experienced similar recently?

@Matty, I don’t think there’s any hard and fast rule about passport lanes (as opposed to entering the EU with your spouse), it seems to be down to individual countries. We just go in our respective lanes and I have no idea what you’re supposed to do when you hit the 180 day limit!

IIRC, the Schengen rules say you should be able to in principle, but if there are electronic gates they’re probably not going to accept U.K. passports. Also some countries just won’t allow it for reasons of their own. (I think Denmark may have been cited as an example).

I do hope you’re not bored of me but this is priceless.

They started boarding my flight and got to group 3. Then they realised that an engineer was still working on a broken cupboard on the plane so they shouldn’t really be boarding it.

So all the people who were waiting on the jetway have been booted back into a holding pen.

Meanwhile people keep turning up at gate 36 looking for today’s Bermuda flight to be told that this is yesterday’s Bermuda flight and today’s Bermuda flight is actually leaving from gate 28.

They then run off all panicked.

I’m thinking 14:00 is looking unlikely and today’s Bermuda flight will beat yesterday’s Bermuda flight.
