My Silver year expires in June and I have a CC voucher expiring in October.
I know I need to call virgin to use the voucher anyway but would I be able to use my Silver benefits for a flight that takes place after they expire? What I mean by this is I am able to book a 241 in upper class with silver. Without it id need 50% of the points for the second seat. So I’m hoping if I book the flight before June (when silver expires) they’d still let me use the voucher for the full 241 as it’s a bit of a manual process.
Also, with my voucher expiring October, are they really strict or could I book before October to redeem the voucher but the flight itself takes place December for example?
I would be interested to know this about the voucher expiry as I have a couple expiring that I want to use for a December flight.
My plan was to possibly book a flight to depart before the voucher expires (hence complying with the terms) and then calling in a couple weeks after booking it and changing the date.
Not sure if they would allow that though!

That’s an interesting idea. The application of the voucher seems a very manual process unlike BA so this may be a potential solution. Virgin also seem to be fairly amenable but I don’t want to overestimate this.
As long as you book by June, you can use your companion voucher without any points for the second seat. You will not get any of your Silver benefits when you fly, of course, but they are a little irrelevant if you’re flying Upper.
You can book by June for a flight after June, without any issue. They’ll be happy to do that.
You can also book the second flight and change the date subject to the ticketing terms, which may incur a fee.
Enjoy!

Great, thank you! On the second point, do you mean I could book a flight using my 241 voucher for a date beyond the expiry as long as I make the booking prior to then? Or is the only workaround to book a dummy flight before the expiry and then pay the change fee (£30ish for a reward flight?) to move to a date beyond the original expiry and they won’t stop this?

Both should work. Remember that the change fee is charged in addition to any additional YQ (if you book Off-Peak and change to Peak, for example) and is subject to availability. I wold suggest just doing the first option to save time and money. VAA are quite accommodating with the use of vouchers, usually.

I can confirm I’ve done this recently (lost my Silver status at the end of Jan) and wasn’t charged any extra points to rebook, only the change fees (which was offset by an £800 drop in supplementary charges vs the original booking)
So to give an update.
My return flight for Jan 1 2024 opened today (flights outbound were still available) and I called in at 8am and the lady nabbed the three seats I wanted and used 3 vouchers that were on my account.
So it seems to be an unofficial book by date and not a travel date. Who knows when this will change though.
As the flight only opened today I could only get 2 upper so used half of the longest expiring voucher (that expires mid 2024) and they said to call in when availability opens up 🤞

This is the usual way to do it. It’s been a book by date, and not a travel by date, for years – I can’t see that changing; it would put VS at a detriment versus, say, BA. Right now, they align on this.
It isn’t. The actual text is:
You can spend your reward for up to 24 months from the date it’s issued. That means you have to have booked your flights and taken the outbound flight within those 24 months. You can take the return journey afterwards.
Sorry – I should have said “complete travel by” date. VS and BA align on that.
