I am intersted in using my BA companion voucher to fly from Madrid to Mexico City, then return from Cancun to Gatwick. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Yes – have a look at the long “How to book the return with the 241” thread for loads of info on such itineraries. Also search for any HFP threads on Open Jaw routings.
@jjemire – the simple answer is yes, your proposed routing is possible/allowed. You may not really find the practical answers as to how to proceed in the rather unwieldy thread referenced above, some of which is now inaccurate or outdated. A few key points to bear in mind –
1) you need to call BA to book an open jaw journey such as this (you could theoretically book as two one ways online, but it might be a bit messy if you are new to this and anyway you can’t do that when IB first releases its seats).
2) if you are planning to book as soon as the seats are released, bear in mind IB does this at T-360 (and BA can see the availability although you can’t online) while the BA Cancun flight will be released at T-355.
3) on occasion, mixing IB flights with BA ones messes up the taxes, but hopefully it won’t affect you.
I did something similarly but in reverse a couple years ago which I do not know if, as mentioned above, still work in your favour re-tax implications while mixing BA and IB.
But yes, it is allowed. I did INV-LHR-SCL in BA First. Return with IB in J, from EZE-MAD.
I booked both legs separately. Then call YouFirdt to get 50% avios back from the IB leg.
