Can anyone confirm the right number to ring at 0100 BST 355 days out to secure the return leg for a Companion voucher booking? Is it the US Call centre?

It would be worth reading this thread if you’ve not already – https://www.headforpoints.com/forums/topic/booking-return-leg-with-companion-voucher/page/71/

In terms of numbers, I think the viable options are Australia (but this is only open Monday to Friday, Australian time – i.e. overnight Sunday to overnight Thursday UK time) which is +61 1300 767 177 and US which is +1 800 452 1201. Some have also suggested the Japanese number but I think that only opens at 0100 UK time. There are some good VOIP services to call cheaply (I used Rebtel which worked well for the Australian number, Skype was still an option to call US number free when I was trying).

The issue you have with the US number is that the line closes at 1am UK time and experience shows that if you’re not connected by around 0055 UK time, you will get cut off with a message to say that the office is now closed. So you need to call a little in advance of then and hope if you do get connected that they will stay on the line until the flights get released at 0100.

For the outbound leg, it is worth trying to both call and be ready book online at 0100 as it’s luck of the draw if you a) get connected in time and b) get connected to an agent who knows what they are doing. For the return leg, you can do the same if you have enough avios to cover the flight back without the voucher (you then have to call and ask them to apply the voucher to the return leg to get avios back – see return flight bit here https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/03/11/how-to-use-ba-amex-241-voucher/). I found that if you have all your details saved on your account (i.e. traveller names, card details etc) then you can get through the booking process online in 20 seconds. Worth having a dummy run so you understand the click through process etc.

    Good luck!
